Summertime is a great time for free concerts in New York City. When the weather cooperates it can be absolutely perfect - like the Nicole Atkins show at Socrates Park on June 17 and The Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks headlinging show at the Coney Island Siren Fest on July 19th. Then it can be almost perfect, like the Sonic Youth show in Battery Park on the 4th of July (it rained some but not much, considering). Julius Carry, who played 'The Shogun Of Harlem' in my favorite bad movie of all time, 'The Last Dragon' has passed away. It's a sad day, but B-Movie heaven just got a little cooler.

One of my favorite songs by the Talking Heads is "Seen and Not Seen" off of their more-than-essential album Remain in Light. If you know the album at all, that might seem strange to you. After all, out of all the songs on the album, this is the least song-ish one on it. It has lyrics, but no singing. It has structure and rhythm, but does not follow the traditional song format. This video is very old school, but was one of my favorites when I started listening to electronica, and warp artists in general. Tom's cramped studio setting really conveys a warm sense of comfort to me as a musician, although I am sure he was hermetic during his tape reel days, and really exhibits how he was able to make albums like Hard Normal Daddy.
