Here's the newest Maroon 5 video. The "Before and After" format reminds me of a Proactiv ad. Hmm. Ever busy lead singer Adam Levine will have his signature on a line of musical instruments: First Acthas unveiled the 222 by First Act line of musical instruments in anexclusive partnership with Adam Levine, lead vocalist and guitarist formulti-platinum Grammy winning pop band Maroon 5. Comprised oftwenty-two separate musical products, 222 by First Act is the biggestl... MORE

If your birthday happens to fall on Inauguration Day, and you are a lefty feminist New York Democrat, all but three of your birthdays since 1969 (I was just turning six when JFK was inaugurated) have been miserably wrecked. (I actually threw a party in January 1993, and I am not one to throw parties. It was fun: catered southern food, red/white/blue balloons and flowers, and C-Span going in the corner.) I'm somewhat superstitious, so I hesitate to even speak of this witho... MORE
I was listening to random songs by The National tonight, when this one came on. As I was listening to it, I thought, "Gee, I'm sorta in the mood to listen to some Springsteen." I wasn't really paying attention to this song as I was listening to it, and it didn't occur to me right away that deep somewhere in the recesses of my brain I knew that Bruce Springsteen also did a version of that song.
And for good measure, the Bruce Springsteen version:
Happy Sunday you glorious moggers you. It's clear blue skies and 75 here in NYC. Whoa! So last week I posted my version of Beethoven's "Fur De Lis" and this week it's The Small Faces "All or Nothing." After watching the live video of the original below, I think it was quite a dubious move on my part! Steve Marriott is a rock legend, but the song has just always moved me and I couldn't resist doing it. Producer Mike 'Slo-Mo' Brenner's steel magic is all over my vers... MORE

The October/November issue of Radar Magazine has an article on Eminem and what is becoming his epic rock biopic of a life. Now some of my friends make fun of me for liking Eminem and his repulsive ways. It's only in recent years I've become a fan and a passing one at that.. don't have his albums, never saw his movie. My fascination revolves around what a passionate open wound he is, who always seems to be drowning. There are rumors that he'll soon be making a return wi... MORE

I fucking LOVE Born Ruffians. I got hold of their debut L.P., Red, Yellow & Blue the other day and I'm still grinning. The band, comprising of Luke LaLonde (guitar/vocals), Mitch DeRosier (bass/vocals) and Steve Hamelin (drums), make lovably chirpy guitar music, utilising vocal harmonies, minimal production and sporadic hooting to memorable effect. I caught them at Korova the other week in what must have been one of the hottest gigs I've ever been to, both literally ... MORE

My boyfriend is back from the New Zealand Music Awards this week. He has been doing some research for a feature in the NME on Cut Off Your Hands. I don't really know much about this band - they are a post-me-leaving-the-country band that I didn't grow up with, and in my heart I like to think "they are no Shihad, they are no Breathe, they are no Weta" but actually, they are pretty awesome, but like lots of New Zealand indie music of recent years, they don't sound 'New Zeala... The New York Times Book Review quotes this passage about the song "Hang On Sloopy" from the new book by Fox News blowhard Bill O'Reilly: "I simply could not get past the incredibly dumb central theme. Sloopy sounded like a dog's name. To this day, I have never heard of a human being named Sloopy. Truly, the words of this song drove me nuts." Let's examine this. First, what possessed Mr. O'Reilly to share his thoughts re: "Hang On Sloopy" with his adoring public? Why ... MORE
I have been reading a lot of posts about how mog has lost its touch. I think part of me feels this way, but for me it has to do soley with my page. I can not change anything on it, and I have no idea why this has happened. It started with my mog meter which up until this day has stayed under the radar. I have asked questions about this, yet nothing has been done to fix the problem. Recently, my mog o matic stopped all together. My recently played never changes, and my rece... MORE
I've never been a huge reggae fan - not to the extent of hunting and buying oddball or rare material (as i've done and still do with Fairport Convention, Steeleye Span, Richard Thompson, Butch Hancock, Jimmie Dale Gilmore...). I enjoy a lot of reggae and its relatives when i happen to hear them on the radio, but that's about it. (Ska being a partial exception, i have and will buy some ska discs, but only certain performers/groups.) However, while following up on a polit... MORE
