I feel down today

Artist:
Track: Holiday Heart (Acoustic)

Free music video of Holiday Heart (Acoustic) (3)

I originally discovered Ki:Theory because of some of their (his? - I really don't know how many people there are) remixes.  Then I heard some of the original music and I really liked it.  On my way home from work last night the acoustic version of "Holiday Heart" came on my iPod, and it was the perfect song for that time of day.  The video isn't the acoustic version, so you can compare. The website has this and some other songs for free: http://www.kitheor... MORE

Free music video of White Diamond (5)
...upon these gems. over and over. it was basically love at first listen, going through newly downloaded music tonight. first, it was hatchback. this guy from san francisco creates lovely noise. i heard the first few notes of "white diamond", and being exhausted and unable to read another word about the philosophy of mind, i let myself lay my head down and just listen to nine-minute, six-second epic of electronic proportions. next, it was hauschka. it was "Freibad" that... New Picture Of Mythical Blues Legend Robert Johnson Found?

Artist:
Album: King Of The Delta Blues
Track:
Other Tags: News

Most of you I'm sure are at least aware of the late great bluesman Robert Johnson. But until now, in the 70 years since Johnson's controversial death in 1938, there have only been 2 photographs ever found verified as being of the blues titan in existence. Well, quite possibly, according to an article in the November issue of Vanity Fair Magazine, there has now been found, by Manhattan guitar salesman Zeke Schein, a third - purchased for $2,200 on all places, eBay.

Factory covers make me happy

(7)

I'm no covers expert, but this is the first cover I'm ever found of a Section 25 song. Better yet, it's a great song, and the cover stretches it out a bit and plays with it the way a cat plays with a cornered mouse. Just as well, neither Section 25 nor For Against have received near enough love. Maybe this will help. :) PS: Isn't it just the neatest little bonus to find an unexpected cover? I was just listening through the new For Against album and noticed this track n... MORE

Discoverer's Day

(2)
Blog post image preview

Discoverers' Day.  The second Monday in October shall be known as Discoverers' Day, in recognition of the Polynesian discoverers of the Hawaiian Islands, provided that this day is not and shall not be construed to be a state holiday. This is straight from the Hawaii State Legislature, and makes no mention of either Christopher Columbus or Capt. James Cook. (The latter, according to Wikipedia, is the discoverer honored by this resolution. NOT!) The voyaging canoe pictu... MORE

It's almost November again . . .

Artist:

. . . and that means NaNoWriMo time.  If you weren't here last year while I underwent this ordeal, NaNoWriMo is an annual contest of sorts to try and get as many people as possible to write a novel during the month of November.  The rules are pretty simple: you have to write 50,000 words between the first and last day of November.  If you do, you win.  Regardless of how terrible the actual quality of the writing is. Which is how I won last year.  With a lot of determina... MORE

Blog post image preview I’ve been traveling so much lately that I’ve missed my regular dose of Bootie. But not this past weekend. For those who haven’t already been hammered by me about Bootie, it’s the floating multi-city mash-up party held every month in San Francisco, Los Angeles and New York City - with satellite editions in far-flung locations such as Munich and Paris. And last Saturday night, the mainstays of Bootie Paris – including star DJ/producer/remixer ComaR - voyaged to San Fran for ... MORE

Geographer San Francisco-based, Geographer, have that lush baroque pop sound that draws lots of comparisons to Andrew Bird and Arcade Fire. Their new album Innocent Ghosts released this summer and is getting good attention.  Listen to Can’t You Wait:     Girls  This is my favorite San Francisco indie rock band at the moment.  Their debut album, Lust for Life, is [...]

I was at a house party a few weeks ago, and there was a big turntable system set up that people were taking turns spinning records on. I recognized most of the stuff that was playing throughout the night, but there were a couple of times that a song that sounded like punk and funk at the same time. I went up and asked the guy what he was playing, and he said Gang of Four. He also said that if I had never listened to them I should pick up their debut album and then go fr... MORE

Yat-Kha playing In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida While checking Julie’s tracklist from the previous Free Kitten post, I noticed "When the Levee Breaks" by Led Zeppelin. While no one can say Zeppelin’s cover isn’t top notch, I think I might have found a better version. Tuvan throat singer & guitarist Albert Kuvezin’s cover with his Yat-Kha project. Off 2005’s Re-covers [...]
