I have been steadily digitizing my albums. Tonight this one was on deck. This is a vinyl rip from a record that has been played more times than I can remember. The single I hope you are listening to now came out in 1984, August to be exact. These songs didn't make it to their self titled studio debut. Why, I don't know. But they were nice enough to add the songs on the second album 'Hatful of Hollow'. The tracks that are on this single will stand the test of time. E... MORE
The ones who just heard John McCain exclaim, "Fight with me! Fight with me!" Yeah, I know that you and I were thinking the same thing:
Sorry that the title of this post is kind of a red herring. Kind of.... God knows she is a superb singer, and in fairness you can't compare her version to this one, but Little Willie John does something with this song that just floors me. What a sad story he is. One of the great soul singers of the Fifties, he fell into dissolute ways (imagine....) and ended up killing a man in a barroom fight in 1966, after his career had effectively ended. He was convicted and sent to... MORE
Crossroads is a Shelley Doty penned song featuring her ripping lead guitar and Mike Sugar's incredible bass work For your listening pleasure
with Carlos Paredes, the late lamented master of the guitarra portugues. He hasn't featured on here for nearly a year, which is a shame as he was a truly great talent
WHAT? I hear you cry. No, missus, not those skinny girls on Motown, The Supremes from Columbus, Ohio; Forest Porter (lead), Bobby Isbell, Eddy Dumas, Jay Robinson and Eddie Jackson, who formed the group at high school, were discovered in Pensacola, Florida by Joe Ruffino, who signed them to ACE Records. They made one single, backed by Huey "Piano" Smith on ....err...piano and Lee Allen on sax then disappeared back north. Thirty years ago a 45 of this was selling for $30... MORE
Mixed into nearly every set at a live show is a song from your favorite band that was written and originally performed by another artist or band. The concept of the cover certainly isn’t a new idea. But with swirling debates on copyright issues and the desire for artists to protect their property and creations, it is anticipatory as to when the argument over cover songs might ensue (and surprising it has not already come up). This is one area, where in many cases, ... MORE

In this season's political climate, why WOULDN'T you show your support for the presidential candidate of your choice. The National have quietly voiced their allegiance with a new Barack Obama/Mr. November T-Shirt, available on their website. Maybe the song being referenced is not the most politically correct in The National's catalog, but it does have that certain "je ne sais quoi" to it. "I WON'T fuck us over, I'm MR. NOVEMBER! I'm MR. NOVEMBER!!" ---------------... MORE
We’ve all seen the video of Bob Dylan standing behind the Savoy Hotel dropping cards to "Subterranean Homesick Blues". In ‘Don’t Look Back’ you’ve seen him take apart Donovan while holding court in his suite at the Savoy. This is the Savoy.
Opened in 1889, it was built by impresario Richard D’Oyly Carte, producer of Gilbert and Sullivan, and has always enjoyed a reputation as one of the most prestigious hotels in London. Famous guests include The Beatles, U2, Led Zepp... MORE
Don't go looking underneath your Christmas tree or Menorah for the new U2 album. The follow up to 2004's How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb won't be coming out till early '09. Dayum! That's five years in between! "We’ve hit a rich songwriting vein and we don’t want to stop," Bono explained of pushing back the release on the band's Web site. "This is our chance for us to defy gravity once again." WARNING: Bono getting very Bono here. "We have what it takes, we have the so... MORE
