Video of the Day: The Verve - "The Drugs Don't Work" (Live)

Witness Richard Ashcroft's expansive voice on this classic tearjerking Britpop ballad. Nick McCabe's guitar touches fill out the song as beautifully as the original's orchestral strings.

Being Insane

The above pretty well sums up the music. And those of us in love with it all understand it perfectly. We sing silently and dance as if no one were looking. We're the ones on the transit system with eyes closed and head bouncing, imperceptibly to the music. Oh to have headphones at times like those. I, like many others, always have a song going in my head. And for reasons I cannot even begin to...

{but hey, no politics} CAUTION: REPOSTED SONG! (yeah, like it matters)

.....to me its frightening that Donovan really did sing that way. I thought it was studio trickery. I sorta wish it was studio trickery...but no...he sings like that....But he does a nifty littlen Lennon immitation & he gets George spot on as well.LIVE MUSIC IS BETTER?

After a relatively calm and contemplative 16 bar piano intro, Mott's last of their 4 pre-glam albums kicks off with"Thunderbuck Ram" shift into high gear as Mick Ralphs guitar and vocal work strain to envision the future Bad Company. Come back and hear this track when MOG gets the mp3 functionality sobbered up.In the meantime, here's some great sounds from the early 70's, and a nice little film...

The Pack A.D.

The first two bands brought to mind upon hearing The Pack A.D. are the White Stripes and the Black Keys. It's sparse, raw, gritty, soulful blues music from... Canada. With two albums - both released in 2008 - under their belt, Vancouver female duo - Becky & Maya - do the garage/blues rock revival thing pretty damn well.Personally, I find them most intriguing simply for the fact that women that ...

Willem sings what he knows, and knows what he sings....Just nineteen, and wracked by the mysterious, disturbing episodes, Maker was hospitalized at Ridgeview Institute, a psychiatric center in Smyrna, Georgia. In a strange twist of fate, Maker's roommate at Ridgeview was Joe South, the legendary singer-songwriter who wrote Grammy-winning classics like "Games People Play" and "Walk a Mile in My ...

I READ THE NEWS TODAY (oh boy!)...CHARLIE DON'T SURF........AND NEITHER DOES MOHAMMED
3 months ago

............Robert Duvall, in total gung-ho oblivian, striding accross the beach like a lord of the manor, bullets flying, motar rounds landing, wrapped in his American bubble of certainty, convinced its his right to own the break 'cause..."Charlie Don't Surf". Determined, it is implied, to show Charlie what this place is for......There can be no richer metaphor for America's ambivilent self-i...

If you ever find the fastest way out of town, whistle-stop breakfast's on me. The hours, however, shall be divided equitably by playlist and be sure to pick out songs like you're begging to stay breathing. Bigger baggage gets first dibs."Don't ask me what it is or where to go because I don't know."If you ever have the loudest song to which to sing along, we'll split gas money. Rip through this ...

Woe

I'll let someone else do the talkin...I'm embarrassed to admit that I'd never heard of Graham Lindsey until recently, and that saddens me, but some of the most intriguing artists toil in relative obscurity. That being said, Lindsey has racked up a considerable amount of critical praise in his short tenure as folk troubadour. His 2003 debut album was described by No Depression Magazine as "the m...

THe blacktop flies beneth me like the clouds do overhead. 80 miles an hour. My tires feel the road and slip each mile gently past while my thoughts focus elseware. I am lost in space and time the sterio is background, the landscape in which my mind wanders. distant memories wax full again. Hopes, dreams, and the bitter realities that cancell them out. Tyler sleeps fitfully in the passengers sea...

The guy in the next office told me "this is my new favorite band", and he crammed the cd into my pc like an excited 12 year old girl (mmm...he does have nice eyes...). Well, could do a lot worse. shades of Clash, Oasis, and even The Beatles echo thru Mando Diao's Hurricane Bar, and it looks like they have absolutely no trouble displaying those influences. Rock on, kiddites!

Random music Friday: Life's Different Now

C&K are hosting a series of "Back In The Day" concerts, so sing along if you know the words. But just a mile away from the Hawaii theater venue, a high stakes gamble/showdown is being played out that's more thrilling than a Bruce Willis "Yippie-Kay-Yay!" flick.Life is an equation: State budget shortfall + Furloughs for all or layoffs for some + Union brinkmanship = November 11 storm of pink sli...
