Recently I heard this on a Bay Area radio station that had been playing Puerto Rican reggaeton a while back, but now that that particular musical revolution is not so exuberant, it has been playing songs like this. I just found out that this song is from back in 2002.
Born Lupe Victoria Yoli Raymond in December 1936 was one of the fieriest performers in the history of "Latin" music. Not onlywas she a dangerously sexy perfoprmer, during her heyday she remained an adherent of the Santeria cult, which involved the worship of a pantheon of gods - not something likely to engender much sympathy in much of the USA. she died in 1992, having converted to Christianity late in life. This is her version of "Fever"
