8 stars So I’m going to fess up. While I consider myself the world’s biggest Dylan fan, and none of you pretenders out there can ever make me think otherwise, that doesn’t mean I love every note he’s ever played or sung. Frankly, Dylan started losing me following 1976’s Desire, the last from a 14-year, mostly great run of albums, starting with his self-titled 1962 debut.
My problems with Dylan’s recordings post-Desire began with Street Legal. All you have to do is list... MORE
Hello there, Moggies! On this week's Home Taping, I review the latest effort from the Brothers Gallagher and their hired help with The Girlfriend The Missus. Be warned, however, that this review is even more unprofessional than the last one. It starts with a mealy-mouthed apology on behalf of the Irish nation for the recent attack on Noel by a mad Paddy, features more swearing and shouting than necessary, and contains a truly offensive impression of Peggy Gallagher, the ... I dug this exchange. Seriously, they pulled the gloves off and beat the snot outta each other. Barack did let McCain take pot shots and McCain kept them coming. Barack kicked McCain's ass. For what it's worth John McCain is great in this venue. I could listen to him all day. His ducks were in a row and he became an 'O' seeking missile. Unfortunately Obama brought the past administration's record as a shield. Don't forget we have had only one Democratic prez. in 28 yea... MORE
(otherwise known as a very long post without pictures) 1- The Crown My paternal grandfather was, by profession, a writer, artist/painter, journalist, illustrator/cartoonist, and he founded the first labor union newspaper in my home province. He's a dude with a bust displayed at the university library. He comes from a political clan, strong at the time, himself a vocal supporter of certain names in the province's bi-partisan politics. He fathered 19 sons and daughters (be... MORE
As an old and long-term Oasis fan (that sounds like I have a disease of some sort, but I don't! ;P ), I have used many positive adjectives to characterize their music down the years. "Sexy" was never one of them. Their music just didn't work for me that way. TILL NOW. Push the fiery red button, and tell me I'm wrong. I dare you, I double dare you! I shudder in the mere thought of how this song will sound live. PS I'm still digesting the new album, but I like what I hea... MORE
Stephen Colbert decided to role-play a town hall meeting after hearing Sarah Palin talking "straight to the American people" in the VeePee debate last Thursday. Once in character, Colbert takes questions from the audience, including a skinny hipster in a "Vote" McCain t-shirt. What do you think? Clip from last night's episode of The Colbert Report: (I know it starts with an ad, I apologize. It seems the video on ColbertNation.com doesn't work properly, so I hav... MORE
The Jesus & Mary Chain The Power of Negative Thinking Blanco y Negro / Rhino 2008 "Do you remember the JAMC?"
Who could forget those immortal lyrics sung so eloquently by Death Cab's Ben Gibbard on their song "We Looked like Giants?" Ben, like many of us who grew up JAMC fans, knew the importance of this band born from Glasgow, Scotland, whose feedback fury and three minute love pop symphonies s... MORE
Coldplay have revealed the tracklist for their forthcoming EP, Prospekt's March, an extension of the Viva La Vida studio sessions that wasn't completed by the May deadline the band had on the album. The EP, due in November, includes four new songs and the second part of the Viva La Vida track "Life In Technicolor." As for their more recent single "Lost!" the band is releasing a new version in the next few weeks that features Jay-Z. It's not the first time Coldplay's Ch... MORE

DAY #27 of singer-songwriter Kristin Hoffman's "Countdown To 30". A little back story from an earlier post is that Kristin has her 30th birthday coming up on October 10th. She always like to do things to inspire herself on and around her birthday. She has decided to do something special for this birthday milestone and decided to enter into the next decade with a fun and creative musical challenge. For thirty days, Kristin will write, record and produce a new ... MORE
Looks like that Jim James benefit for Obama scheduled for tonight in Chicago won't be happening. The My Morning Jacket frontman slipped, fell and hit his head at last night's show in Iowa City. Injuries have forced James to not only cancel the Schubas gig tonight benefiting Democratic Presidential Candidate Barack Obama, but also to postpone the MMJ shows in Chicago later this week. A message from the band via their Web site read: As some of you may have heard we had... MORE
I was listening to a 9/30 edition of a WNYC Soundcheck podcast featuring a live performance by Damien Jurado playing songs from Caught in the Trees. Although he's a fantastic song-writer, the interview is what I found more intriguing (see link below). As the story goes Jurado, over the years has written primarily in character form; however, due to some tough and dark times over the past year or two, he wound up writing a semi-autobiographical record without even knowin... Head over to Spin.com to download a new track from th upcoming Acoustics EP by Minus the Bear, available exclusively for one week only. It’s funnny, I expected this to be a little more stripped down than this, but I guess that’s a testament to the excellent musicians in the band that they can play [...]
