help with the thesis on MOG

Posted over 3 years ago

Hello fellow MOGgers,

I need your help.
But before I ask you to dedicate two minutes of your time and help me (and MOG subsequently), let me introduce myself.

My name is Jelena Maksimović and I am graduate student at the program MA Media, Communication and Cultural Studies, a joint program of University of London and Universite degli Studi di Firenze, for which I am writing a thesis about user-generated content.
I find MOG community to be the perfect example of it, which I why I need few minutes of your time for a questionnaire about your habits on MOG.

If you are a real kind soul, or 100% dedicated MOG member, you can help me further by answering a few follow up questions, by contacting me at jelena.maksimovich@gmail.com.

If you ever did any project related to social studies, you know how the help of the people is essential. So, thanx a million.
xx
Jelena

Great idea but, maybe you should get some help in devising the questionnaire.  Ex. Question 4 is impossible to answer.

    Filled the survey.

Jo, just did it. But levek is completely right: some answers don't really fit to the questions. And at question 1 I would have preferred, if it wouldn't have been mutually exlusive.

If you have further questions, just ask.

Thanx guys for filling up the survey.

@levek: I thought that there is a distinction between having a profile on MOG and being a part of MOG Music Network, having a blog with which you join MMN. How am I mistaken?

@Hermes: I totally get that sometimes several answers encapsulate how you feel, but for the simplicity of analysis one answer is better.

I haven't done the survey yet, but in reference to MMN bloggers, they also have a profile on MOG and can interact in the community the same as "regular" moggers.  I hope that clears something up.  good luck with yr project!

oh i see what they mean about question 4 - it's actually impossible to answer.  (why does it say "just" a mogger?  that's a really weird thing to say)

you asked: are you one thing, or another thing?

that's not a yes or no question.  i think that's what people were trying to say...

    Clarification:

1- Your profile is your personal MOG page - it includes your vital signs, photos, different widgets and all the posts you have put out.  That's also where you go when you want to post something.  It's also the place where you set your preferences and where you can see the people you trust and those that trust you. Now, I don't go there very often because I don't really need to except if I want to post.  Some Moggers post every day, but I don't.

    2. Each day, through e-mail, I will get notifications from my Trusted Moggers.  These are the posts I will check every day and sometimes spend more than two hours on them.  Sometimes, I will comment and occasionally there will be a little chatting.

    3. Mollifire covered the "regular" vs MNN moggers pretty well.  MNNers (if I'm not mistaken) are considered more like 'outside' contributers to MOG.

The one regarding MOG and MNN was just semantically incorrect: you asked if one is part of MOG and part of MNN and the possible answers were yes or no.

Yes to what? I would have expected answers like

    a) part of MOG

    b) part of MNN

    c) part of both

If you don't ask yes/no answers, don't suggest them as answer.

An example for a valid yes/answer:

Are you part of MNN additionally to beeing part of MOG?

    -> yes/no.

This might seem a bit hypercritical to you, but if you  can put an question in a clear manner with the same effort, why mess it up? Especially in a  master thesis, where you are expected (or maybe not, depends on your university) to show scientifical skills, those are errors, that are easily avoidable.

No you are not being hypercritical, it really helps.

So far 34 people responded to the survey, hopefully they could see beyong my linguistical clumsiness.

@Hermes: I changed the question 4, that is I borrowed your formulation.

    Again thanks to everyone.

I took the survey and I assume that you really meant "profile" in your questions (because you did not comment on my clarification), so my reponse is: I go to my MOG profile a few times a month but I open between 15 and 20 notifications every day.

let us know of the outcome if you can. I wouldn't say that I'm 100% MOG but I am a kind soul which is why I did it.
