As a novice drummer, the first thing I usually pick out of songs I dig are the drums. I'm specifically drawn to ones that rock a particularly hard bass or floor tom beat.

I could be nothing less than beside myself, then, when I happened upon The Dodos, who champion this dynamic on just about all of their songs. What's great about their album "Visiter" though, is that the sparse, steady, yet sometimes frantic, tribal beats are paired with an acoustic guitar, which offers an amazing range of songs, from ballad to spastic finger-picking rockers.

I really can not get enough of this album, or the drums in particular. Logan Kroeber is my new hero.

I can't fault you for liking this band...I am just getting stuck into their second album, but absolutely crazy for their first. I especially like the toms in this one. Oh heck...I love the whole album.

Enjoyed this post. I caught some of their tracks from daytrotter and really like them whenever I hear them. I'll have to look into them a little deeper.

annieander: Thanks for the post from the first album. My boyfriend bought that one, and I haven't been able to get it from him yet. Now I'll have to make him fork it over!! :)

runobodyii: Thanks for mentioning the Daytrotter! I went and downloaded all the songs. Such great great stuff. I can't wait till this guys roll into town again!
