secretly, i harbor the notion i predated MOG by ten years.it was 1997 that i found purpose for my persnickety self when it comes to punctuation: i discovered the Internet. or, anyway, i subscribed to dialup for the first time - because i got hooked on that early edition of blogging known as the personal Web site. mine were pages and pages of jerkwater everydays and song lyrics that resonated them.faster than i could say Undernet, i prowled the IRC for chatty insomniacs with like musical tendencies; and joined the requisite two or three Yahoo! music groups. in one such group, Massive Attack or DJ Shadow, perhaps, i once happened to make some strophic post quoting a Red House Painters lyric. one guy - i would never know his real name - emailed me to propose an exchange of MP3s via online storage.his 16HP's for my RHP's.in this way, 16 Horsepower are among the few artists i categorically discovered MOG-style before MOG. i had zero knowledge of their existence, or their songs, prior to that guy's email. the barter petered out by the eighth or ninth song on either side, thanks for the most part to my sucky Internet connection, but by then i was wholly turned on to 16HP.to celebrate my delusion of pre-Mogging MOG, i thought i'd upload an MP3 to MOG for the first time tonight. it is one of my favorite 16HP tracks. 16 Horsepower are a folk-countryish band out of Colorado, whose music i came to christen later on as immoderate gospel. they released their full length debut, Sackcloth 'n' Ashes, in 1996. the MP3 in question, Burning Bush, is off of their 2000 album, Secret South. enjoy.Yes, my sister, girl, I know that it is true. You see me with the Lord's eye, girl, and you see right through,And you ask for nothing. Is there something behind my eyes?Burning Bush by 16 Horsepower16horsepower.com
