how'd your Friday night sound like?

Posted almost 5 years ago
how'd mine, you ask? it tasted of day-old sandwich (smoked ham in foccaccia from Café Fresco by way of the fridge) meets authentic Pakistani fare (lamb korma, some roti, and a banana lassi at The Kabab Shop), plus 30 minutes of flash rain thrown in.beyond that, my Friday night peaked at imitation-Tom Jones and closed with Katrina & the Waves.thanks to my disconcerting mix of brunch and dinner, i somehow landed in Qba at Hotel Cambodiana. a Malaysian Indian labeled as 'The Tom Jones of Asia' is the headliner and, man, did he have the moves to make me swoon after my overpriced margaritas. he did Frank Sinatra, too. you'd think the house band plays Latino muzak, as the bar's name suggests, but it was a Filipino band who did Magic-Sing-karaoke favorites.sorry to miss the Asian Mr. Jones's infamous chest-baring, i ended up in Green Vespa – where a green Vespa is perched atop the outdoor signage whilst the inside walls are painted a happy green. the Irish bar owner had mostly barefoot Irish guests dancing – lipsynching at performance level, really – to Grease. i soaked up the perky vibe with some Stella Artois and called it a night just as everyone started Walking on Sunshine.to think it wasn't a swampy day workwise, i got home beat and ready to hit the shower. i debated between Air and Mississipi Blues to ambiance me to sleep but decided finally that peace and quiet would be best.dedicated to my Friday night_South Dakota : Liz Phair : JuveniliaSmalltown Boy : Bronski Beat : The Age of ConsentMotorcycle Emptiness : Manic Street Preachers : Generation TerroristsThe Hymn for the Cigarettes : Hefner : The Fidelity WarsYou Rascal You : Louis Prima : The Wildest!(Slip and Slide) Suicide : Kosheen : ResistHappy Jack : The Who : A Quick One (Happy Jack)In the Kingdom of the Blind the One-Eyed Are Kings : Dead Can Dance : Serpent's EggBoilermaker : The Jesus Lizard : LiarDamaged Goods : Gang of Four : Entertainment!

  1. ebuzzmiller says Friday I had a long drive so I listened to/auditioned a bunch of records, with sad results as follows: Cold War Kids: tried to like it really hard, but the singer just repeats the same lines over and over in his annoying voice, and the album is mediocre El Perro Del Mar - continues a disturbing recent trend where the singer repeats a line over and over again until i am compelled to throw the CD out the window. Someone should send their vocalist to an "English as a 2nd language" class so they mix up their song lyrics a bit. Peter Bjorn & John - Ahh, finally, much better songs with interesting lyrics. Bryan Ferry "Dylanesque" - with each release, Bryan Ferry gets more like a cheap Vegas lounge singer. This record is pretty pointless and uninspiring, kinda like I expected. So I finally threw in the Booka Shade record which I know is great and jammed out to that. It's hard to listen to NEW music on a Friday.....
