Mogger manqué

reasons MOG rocks #13« historythe MOG-O-Sphere is an assemblage less group-think, more marketplace of minds, most unfeignedly training towards casteless to-each-his-own.the antisocial are at home here, and social animals, too. better yet: those wanting of skill to be occupied as what hip Mogger Kate has christened as 'Mog Community Ambassador' might rely on their MOG pages to extend goodwill. which, i suppose, makes extroverted introverts of us all, vice versa.why, to illustrate, i happened upon 'MOGs like me', rather accidentally, and encountered the following: claiming No. 1 most similar to me was an American who recently appended Okkervil River to his collection, and listened most to Chad VanGaalen, while at the bottom of that page lay she of Elk Grove who most consumed Las Savy Fav and The Dears; perched atop all others of my most popular like Moggers was a UK chap digesting Seasick Steve, Young Galaxy, and James Taylor, whereas an Austinian (of Oh No! Oh My!) owned the page footer by way of Saves the Day and Justin Timberlake. absolute fun.! homily alertnot to apostrophize a lot of gas but a recent skirmish, now out of my house, caused me to recall high school. particularly, it conjured up the vision favored generally of infernal pubescence – that of coterie, most ascribed to campus jocks, cheerleaders, heartthrobs, and spoiled brats.in truth, campus nerds are just as cliquish, as are the goths, delinquents, honor roll, Glee Clubbers (eek, do they still even have those? i date myself.), choir leaders, dramatists, journalists, and declamation contest regulars of school. where a cheerleader walks into a band of geeks, she becomes the freak, and they, the norm, and the ostracism, i'm afraid, is similar.my fervid wish for MOG – and i have the mind it is hereupon granted without ado – is that it remain an amalgamation of freaks rather than the creepy fallow.if it were up to me, the band should proffer some Captain Beefheart, nee Don Van Vliet, whilst we out-moonwalk (the dance step, not the astronauts' opus) one another as vodka comrades. peace and chips, y'all.

  1. Anonymous says F**king Brilliant, poebegone. ... If you are not yet among my "trusteds", you soon will be. Primary advantage of bestowing this "honor" upon you: I get email alerts whenever you see fit to "put pen to pad" on a MOG post. Wish there were a way to follow your "comments", too. As yet, there is not. I believe MOG HQ is working on the issue. ... I look forward to many a good post from you in the future. Hate to sound "paternalistic", or something, there. Not my intention. It's just that _I_ only recently honed in on your gifts.

  3. poebegone says Fedge, thanks, i try. speaking of comments, i recently made one elsewhere about how blogging is my respite from the wee bit of paid writing i do. which means i must caution you that my posts would often be 10 ft. dumber than this one. speaking of 'paternalistic', while i have your attention, apologies and grinning smileys for having mistaken your gender before, John Figler. (8 neither offense nor malice intended, as i am sure you know.

  4. poebegone says Woz/Shawn, thanks. as above, a lot of my posts are nonsensical, or whimsical, at best, but this one was heartfelt, and i had something i wanted to get across properly. otherwise, it's always fun to talk shit and shallow on occasion. (8

  5. Anonymous says No prob, poe. Actually, without meaning to, you gave me an excellent rhetorical opportunity, as you may have noticed, to praise the gutsy ladies in my life, You may not be a gutsy lady _in my life_, exactly, but you are one on my "Trusteds" list. Not to charge right for the pigeon-hole, but have you ever posted on MOG about "a slice of Philippines life"? I bet _this_ Mogger would get a blast out of that. I, an American, know zip about your home, although I do enjoy a good carton of pancit with fishballs, provided that the noodles - and the fishballs for that matter - are _very_ chewy. I have noticed the distinctive way some Filipinos have with the "Anglo" "F" sound, and quite sincerely enjoy that too. I used to work with a whole bunch of Filipino dudes - all of whom shared a love of _frequent_ laughter - (I think they were basically "drunk" on life) at Kinko's in Oakland, CA. I would love a "lesson" in Filipino culture, especially one filtered through _your_ unique sensibilities.

  6. Universalis says Your eyes see the world in general and the mog-world in particular with an eagle-style sight i find both unusual and interesting. Thanks to be and stay amongst us on the mog. We need uncommon people like you, to make it easy on words, poe, please don't be gone 8-)

  7. poebegone says thanks, Universalis, for your love-and-peace posts all around MOG, including the one above. if this were the '60s, you'd be the brother to hang with because you'd have the most potent LSD-happy drugs in your stash - i kid, and mean that in the best way possible. "eagle-style sight" makes me feel way taller than the 5'2" i really am, so that's got to be good.

  8. poebegone says LOL, Fedge, i did not see that Filipino rant coming. i keep my MOG posts music-related (lest i bore you all to pieces with the mundanity of my earthly life) and vent all else out on my other (Blogger) blog, but i do think you're on to something there - it should rock to sneak a few 'Filipinisms' every now and again, i'll remember to do that. for now, i shall indulge you with one, and it is music-related: we've all grown up on the videoke here. any Filipino with even the raddest taste in music will have been present in many a get-together where he'd have belted out, in the company of a minus one, such timeless hits as Paul Anka's My Way or Tom Jones's Delilah.

  12. poebegone says good God, Trep, i spout 'i date myself' more than sometimes but am just now realizing how it reveals the lonely old hag i really am. (8 (secretly, i think 'apostrophize' is a transitive verb, but what do i know? English, conveniently, is my second language.)
