WE DO THE MASHED POTATO AND THE FUNKY CHICKEN

They are sounds from outside my headphones, this barking in a foreign language from stairwells, these doors that start a banging contest in cycles. They flag my clockwork, broken only by quiet and the occasional white noise or incognito emphases having the misfortune of presuming thicker walls. They are sounds that insist on implicating me in everyday action. I suspect today, for instance, as one in which people get back to work. For me, the day is nothing more than a declaration of the state of my supplies.

When last I ran into the day-shift watchman, the question of my recently historical workdays was floated. He confided that particular others wondered about me, those who frequented the nearby places on odd hours, shielded by smokes and a laptop, no differently than I did. I deliberated then the notion that I bore a marking on my forehead known only to akin psychographic profiles: was I on the solitary aliens radar? Shrug. I assured him that, home as I was, I alternated the ceiling fan and air-conditioning to conserve electricity.

    Superb writing!

"Shrug" might just be the pass-key answer to all questions posed to a solitary alien.

hey now, I come here for reckless abandon - not the reminder of drudgery! nice tunez, that Electric Six is a stinger! Have you taken to duct taping all the door and window cracks yet? How many months (years?) of solitude do you figure to endure?:)

I have an upstairs neighbor that can't resist the occaisional techno throwdown and then there's the other folks who seem to like moving furniture around at 2 AM (or whenever it's 15 minutes after my eyes have shut). Work..I'm rapidly forgetting what that's like.

That ES track is fun-kay & 'Shrug' is full of melancholy. There is literally barking outside as my landlord has two dogs, one of which is spoiled as hell & knows nothing about the concept of silence(as is the landlord's girlfriend, their owner, who modeled their behavior, grrrrr)!

Loving the alien - it's a way of life. Oh yeah. Ida was my late gramdmother's name, which in no way informs my affection for "Shrug." And so on...

GR - hellyeah! to be honest, i dig the older stuff more than this 2008 record.

Cody - agh, i know these furniture-moving neighbors you speak of. how about karaoke freaks. oh, i hate those.

Aug - LOL on the girlfriend who modeled the dogs' behavior. do they all have the same hairstyle, too?

Mike - why, Ida is named after Elizabeth Mitchell's grandma as well. yes, i am all about the alien way of life.
