Track:Where Do My Bluebirds Fly?
The red song button had been posted on MOG but I think bears repeating.
Dalarna, Sweden folkie Kristian Matsson alias The Tallest Man on Earth released his first full-length in 2008 through Gravitation, following a debut EP three years ago. Shallow Grave did not seem to make any best-of lists, including mine in which it was short-listed, so it's time to give a shout-out to this pretty great record.
An obvious reference would be Bob Dylan but I don't mean merely the vocal stylings and guitar like the lazy www would have you believe. An experience of their music shares this odd combination of care and detachment that's what drew me into early Dylan, less Highway 61 Revisited in this case and more Nashville Skyline with a touch of Blonde on Blonde.
Every song in the album feels thoroughly created and worded. Not a track on there is weak, from start to finish. I apologize that I've been exercising near-brutal honesty lately, it's part of my self-help 12-step, but this is stuff that Damien Rice can only hope to make. Be supportive. I have teeth, you know, for flashing graphic smileys.

Good Morning friend. Thanks for these (good evening to you)
hello, Jeff. welcome to Saturday. phewie, you're not complaining about the Dylan reference. of course, the music isn't the same but then you know that i already know that. (;
Dylan has become such a touchstone for so many. His influence is pervasive in our rocknroll culture
His music reminds me, for some reason, of driving in open country on a snowy day at the beginning of a long journey. Why? Beats me. Sometimes, before the coffee wipes the dreams clean from your brain, you think odd things....
Agree with ivylander, and this is what allows some of the best writing to be started...
I went through a Dylan phase a long time ago & not much into him these days BUT that doesn't mean I can't appreciate his influence in other artists. I like the lo-fi quality of these tracks.
Dylan is one of the most amazing somgwriters ever....don't ruin it by seeing him live though lol...drink LOTS of caffine beforehand!
I saw bluebirds while hearing this... gotta agree with DMDM, Dylan's influence is so pervasive any one who picks up a guitar is in some ways indebted to him. Though I think I would need to hear some more tunes before making a strong comparison.
I actually left a Dylan concert after 2 songs, but not because he was bad... but thats another tale.
I thought I wasn't getting this until I realized the involuntary sing-a-long by the second chorus. And, before ya know it, I'm confronted with the fact I have not thrown enough stones in ponds this year - and the beautiful ones I pocketed at Lake Michigan are still in the car console.
Yeah, I'm diggin' it...thanks!
Jeff - true, i can not argue with that.
Bill - that right there's an inimitable moment.
Van - it's too bad it's very fleeting.
Aug - i need some reacquainting with his Bobness myself.
GR - really? i wasn't aware he's a lesser immortal live.
Chris - i am very tempted to ask why. i take it whatever it was could not wait.
Scott - as long as the sing-a-long's in private, if it were me.
Dylanesque to a faretheewell. And lo-fi, fer sure. Talk about basement tapes. Some serious talent here, though.
Mike, very much in the vein of basement tapes indeed. darn lists, one's always bound to leave so much out.
