WE DO THE MASHED POTATO AND THE FUNKY CHICKEN

Minor apocalyptic is waking up to an aftermath like any other and wondering if setting myself up for disappointment by sameness is a stronger intoxicant than, say, forcing change however half-cocked. I mean, listen to me, whiney as ever.

El Rey reunites David Gedge with Steve Albini seventeen years after Seamonsters. Do I love or hate it? It's the same difference, that's my answer. On one hand, I recognize the wit, humor, and lavishness of sound like yesterday. On the other hand, I've grown older although it isn't to say I've grown up.

I think my empathy is socialized: I am more forgiving when I care less. These being said, I started the new year neither happier nor sadder, having closed the old year high as fuck with anticipation on the eve of something whose mystery came merely from that it hadn't happened yet, so I would say I'm breaking even.

Can you ask for anything more than breaking even? I guess it would selfish to ask for more and good for the soul to ask for less. Firm beleiver in karma myself. Trying to listen to the track but kids are behind me banging on the keyboard.

Galen - good to see you back. i'd love to ask for more than breaking even, if anyone's listening. ;D a happy new year to ya and the fam!

GR - that was of course figurative, the high and happy parts both. (8

I don't know, maybe I have lowered hopes for the Weddoes but this sounds pretty good to me. :)

Breaking even today is much better than breaking apart.  Tomorrow can only be a mystery.  Wishing you happy tomorrows for the new year.

hhmmm, something about The Wedding Present needed to sound a little more mmmm drunk than forced ("She's Hit" has the spirit!). prolly just me that's stuck back in the same groove at the end of the vinyl. Old year out, new year in...like changing a trash bag.
speaking of seamonsters, try Beowolf...much more entertaining than I expected, and even managed to scrim up the pre-teen fear I used to get reading it in hardbound. Birthday Party? now that's a real celebration...

Scott, i saw the latest Beowulf incarnation on IMAX when it came out. random choice, i was there and it was there. i'm not even sure it's good but, as these modern things go, it was a psychedelic experience.

I give these songs a wholehearted thumb sideways, how's that for an even keeled response(& non-committal to boot), haha! Don't think I've ever heard TWP so this is interesting to hear & I think I could learn to enjoy them. Thanks ilay.

Btw, I saw Beowulf at a friends house a few weeks back. I wasn't sure I wanted to watch it when I realized it was all digital animation but I gave it a chance & it sunk it's teeth into me. I ended up enjoying it more than I thought I would but kept thinking that the animation wasn't quite true to life, everything was a bit off, the movement of things, which kept me from really buying into it.

Poe I wouldn't classify you as whiney.  Maybe shiny!  Happy new year again.  I had no idea there was new Wedding Present out.  I think the tracks sound great.  Doesn't sound too much different from their music of the past.  It is weird though to see them pop up with a new album.  Is Buffalo Tom or the Vaselines coming out with new stuff? :p

Aug - a thumb sideways! i like that alternative. try early TWP first before the latest one, i would say.

Beowulf. i'd mentioned my IMAX viewing of it to you. my biggest memory is things flying in my face. ;D

Cody - you got it. Gedge's puppy-like loser-like demeanor is charming. it's unfortunate all these women who keep leaving him, but then he gets to write about it so also a win-win, kinda.

Scott - LOL, neither am i.

    ardy - may we read more from you this year. (;

Sam - hahah. shiny, i'll take it. it's funny you point out these comebacks. i just found out in another MOG post that Asian Dub Foundation had an album in '08. who knew? and you know what else? welcome back! ;p
