for Love not Lisa

Damon and Naomi are here because the album is the last i've transferred from my older to newer laptop. the old dawg is the last non-Mac personal computer i own. i think it's dying and i am feeling rather sentimental. that's why this piece of trashy cyber-love literature is here.
the first Macintosh beat my first boyfriend by 5 years. it was the rainy season of '86, and it was love at first sight. i got my first PC in '94 and named her amygdala. did we have a lot of unbridled first's: an internet connection, Warcraft / Starcraft / Diablo, self-taught HTML coding (Notepad, not Dreamweaver) and PC doctoring, crack / keygen / warez sites before they were fashionable, Napster / Winamp / FTP / IRC. sigh, i could go on.
i don't think i've had more interaction with anything or anyone than a computer in the last 14 years. (i am that well-adjusted.) when i start making up too many excuses to a boyfriend because i'm in front of the computer, then i know the relationship is about to be over. with the human, not the machine. (this was, in fact, the case with every boyfriend i've had.) it's like my car. i talk to it, too. or, the dying laptop, it's my guitar.

the post title is in reference to the Apple Lisa that was how Steve Jobs got to developing the Mac instead, which brings us to the "1984" Mac ad made by Ridley Scott.

Damon Krukowski and Naomi Yang were of course the two-thirds of Galaxie 500 that wasn't Dean Wareham. from the same album, here is a cover of Araçá Azul, the final, title track of the 1972 Caetano Veloso album from Polygram.
Oh man, I love that retro Mac ad. Only ever owned one pc myself, can't say I miss it though. But all those memories you and your silicone friend have shared. Letting go is the hardest part. Be strong sista!
Galen, Mac had the rad ads back in the day, huh? i guess they still get to have fun with the Mac vs. PC ads these days. i owned three PC's. good times. but as they like to say, once you go Mac, you never go back. (;
You're baiting me with your Mac-love ... won't work. :P
Howdy, long time reader seldom commenter.
I go both ways. With Macs and PC's that is.
Dale, but ... but ... this post is for my terminally ill PC. it lets me be nerdier than my Mac, i assure you. :}
Chris, lookie whose avatar is in full nerd gear. ;d until my PC's dying day, i go both ways. sigh, i guess this was a eulogy.
I have a PC addiction, thank you very much. And it is my best relationship. It gives good hard drive @;P heh
I have to say it, I had to turn that Beatles cover off halfway through, it's hideous imo. I don't like her voice at all. The other song is quite beautiful though.
Naomi was the name of 2nd high-school heartbreak. Daimon the name of my current computer. But the music, the music is my true love. As for time, only memory can measure it.
Lovely tunage for a frosty Sunday in LDN
Oh my stars and garters!
Look what the wolves left on your doorstep Ilay.
"amygdala" {emphasis on "my"} means "almonds" in Greek, and it's my favourite type of nut, awww! {I don't think it's officially in the nut family, but you know how I mean}
I had a boyfriend that used to ignore me to play Diablo II. I learned to play Diablo II, too, because I was curious, got better and more popular than he was, and I was the one doing the ignoring then, and he was very irritated mwuahahaha!
Go Macs! :)
A relationship between a human and a computer is quite similar to one between lovers. Lovers, like computers, can bring happy moments, but they will ultimately fail you, or it will be you who will break it up. Love has an expiry date on its pinkish backside.
Aug, i am so stealing your line, "It gives good hard drive". aw, think it's a "Yoko voice", do you? dislike away, i'd worry if we Moggers all like the same things. 3)
Michael, i love that your computer is named Daimon. music beats all else, it is very much true love material. the measures of memory, as unownable as time.
that photograph is haunting.
Chris, hah, too true. i hate to say it but, oh, the irony in that. (look what the other wolves still haven't left on my doorstep, if you get my drift. curses.)
Anna, that is a cool meaning of "amygdala" i never knew. i love almonds, and i keep a stash to sprinkle on a lot of things i eat. (like cereals, nothing too weird.)
oww, if i had a penny for every boy who suddenly forgot you when it was time to play. you show 'em! ;d
levek, oh my, what not to ponder in everything you said. alternatively, they ultimately break you, and then you fail it. damn that expiry date. i think i'm going back to bed... (8
Haunting version of a fairly haunting song to begin with. Haunt x 2, I suppose. The screen on my year-old iMac is fucked so I've a downer on Jobs and co on the moment. So...Nice song, shit Jobs. That is all.
hah! fucked in what way? mine has glitches, too. like the "minimize" button is sometimes gray or Safari (i use 2 browsers) gets update errors. so, excuse me, Mr. Shit Jobs, you're far from perfect!
A whole strip of pixels are faded some of the way in on one side of the screen, plus a vertical line appears right in the middle of the screen. I did some research and found that the whole batch (fcoming rom a partic factory in '07) was faulty. It's useable, 'cos it's still a good sized screen, but I'm not enamoured with the company right now. It's also very, very slow compared to my work PC. Sure lovely design, great video editing, but other than that I'm not sure I'll buy another.
This is the link about the pixel ish, with a pic of the screen in the first post:
