i posted about Colin Newman last Friday and couldn't pass up the chance to remind everyone of Big Black's noise rock cover of Heartbeat, one of my favorite Wire tunes, from the 1978 album Chairs Missing. original in the mp3, cover on video. sorry if this post has been done, i didn't have time to check.
so many artists have covered Wire, my head hurts just thinking about it but, notably, My Bloody Valentine got back together (!) to do one and you can bet i'm posting it just after this.
on video would be the infamous live one from Pigpile in 1987 (album released in 1992); there is a second version on the comp The Rich Man's Eight Track Tape also from 1987.

All new to me, but the live track is injected with a lot of adrenalin. Was gonna say I found their "One! Two! F*** you!" a bit unique battle cry - then I tried another of their tracks, and they started it the same way. Oh well, you can never have too many expletives...
Scott, Big Black was Steve Albini's vehicle prior to Rapeman and Shellac. "One! Two! Fuck you!" was kind of a signature he liked to use every so often. the Heartbeat cover was available as a video only in the Pigpile live album. unfortunately the one up there from YouTube is not good-quality audio or video. i should do a proper Big Black post someday.
