just one more for the road.
the single hit number one on Billboard (Pop) in 1969 the day before my birth date (far from now, i'm not dropping hints or anything ;d) and there it stayed for two weeks. written by Norman Whitfield and Barrett Strong. produced by Norman Whitfield.
i Mogged SF's Thee More Shallows only recently but saved these for a Sunday. trust me - more for the evening than the afternoon. check out my previous post for a Smiths cover by another SF band, Loquat, who are also Moggers.
good night, MOG world.
i guess Al Green's is the most popular cover (audio only) ~

This is great! I love it! dermahrk's gonna hate it! That's how I know its good.
Really, this is awesome. You're on a roll today Ilay!
not a cover but from the same EP.
Jeff, hahah, what does the wrath of dermahrk entail? should i go call the 300?
well, that was the last as i am nearing my midnight now. 'night!
This just seems....contrary. Y'know?
Bill, hah. and the first line is sending mixed signals. "I can turn the grayest sky blue." clear blue or blue blue? promise or threat? (un)fortunately, i am too sleepy to chew on these...
good morning mog world :)
Hey at least there's some singing and real instruments on that second track, as opposed to Whisper-Down-The-Lane vocals.
Thee More Shallows are just too deep for moi. Or something...Oh wait, the second track has now degenerated into whispering and electronica. Never mind.
Hmm... they took an upbeat, righteous, funkalicious song and turned it into an ambient dawdle. Probably good for bedtime listening...
You're such a youngin', hehe! I friended Thee More Shallows on my myspace page thanks to your introductory post about them(they just friended me back a few days ago too). Hoping to see them live soon in SF! These tracks are great in their own right.
faith/pixie, and good evening to you. (;
dermahrk, "whispering and electronica" - hah i can now see where the wrath is coming from, and i sympathize with it to a certain extent. that is to say, anybody can sing an electronic number.
toronno, ahoy there! yup, righteously funkalicious. i think maybe the posted cover is fitting for the sort of intense emotions that suck the life out of you and bleed you dry, and in that way it serves its purpose.
aug, you friended TMS in MySpace? well now, tell 'em they're getting shameless free publicity in MOG and score swag quick!
i am off to get busy with real life stuff. laterz, ventilaterz. (+
I'll do that ii. That is if I remember when I'm on the site. Maybe I'll go there right now . . . .
Love this song. Annie Lennox does my fave version. This one was pretty sweet too. Took me a sec to figure out what I was hearing.
Aug, for a moment there i thought you said "wii". the way i am hearing "ii" in my head almost sounds like "ew". heheheh.
Sam, i love it, too! i was going to include the Annie Lennox one in this post but YouTube was acting up and i did not want to wait.
Nothing wrong with Al Green either. :)
I am with SamBro - Annie Lennox rocks it out - as does Al Green !!! It's a great song - not hard to do justice to if you have the chops as all three certainly do :)
Sam and Lizzie, ain't nothing wrong with Al Green, most certainly. in some parts of the planet, it is blasphemous to even think it! ;d
