who's your muse? 1 of 3 feat. Elsiane

Posted almost 4 years ago

The Muses embody the arts and inspire the creation process with their graces, to paraphrase Wikipedia. In the short time of my disappearance (from MOG) and being a muse to nothing and no one, I found three women that seemed to embody the three original muses and I'd gladly offer up to anyone in search of inspiration. The first of these muses is Aoidē ("song" or "voice") and I think she conjured up this first potential of the time being.

Elsieanne Caplette. triphop. Montreal by way of Peru. Vega Records.

Triphop. There's a scene long throwing muses to the world. Beth Gibbons etherealized Portishead to heavens just as Kelli Ali sexed Sneaker Pimps to hell. Elizabeth Fraser did to Teardrop what Róisín Murphy did to Moloko what Geike Arnaert did to Hooverphonic. Nina Miranda did it to Chris Franck like Martina Topley-Bird did it to Tricky.

Now Elsieanne Caplette is doing it to Stephane Sotto. It's it. What is it? The real thing, I hope, if you're going to find your muse. It is the voice, in Elsiane's case.

Ideally, hit the video first, which is track one, then the red button, which is track two, then the old skool playa, which is track eleven of eleven.

She, who grew up in Peru, is the singer/songwriter and he, whom she met in Montreal, is the drummer of Elsiane. Vega released their debut album Hybrid last year; can't miss that album artwork with the femme contortionist clothed in pink. Nettwerk picked Hybrid up for a US release digitally on August fifth and on CDs in the fall.

A song called Vaporous.

I might make the full album available on the other side, given time. Stay chooned for potential muses 2 and 3.

    Re-found
From the delicate dream-like reverse film of the intro through it's sleepwalking violin outro, "Vaporous" is an embodiement of patient longing...
"...sometimes I wait for myself, sometimes for you...." there is no shedding capable, only endurance. and belief that someday, someway it will mend
why do I crave to hear the tail-end of Roxy Music's discography? God, I must have left that cassette of Avalon on repeat for months...
    please give us more muse-ic

Scott, songs one and two (Vaporous and Mend) are on repeat in my iTunes at the moment. Elsieanne has a funny way of enunciation, to add to her standout voice.

damn Roxy Music are certainly partly to blame for all the glam neon brooding going on with the latter generations of artists that the band and each member thereof influenced. i am a total fashion victim of it meself. (mental note: Avalon. dark side. ;D)

I prefer the beauty and character of natural imperfection.

From that very first lp, Roxy were my innovative exciters. I feel a retrospective brewing...

by the way, on the matter of Julee Cruise, it's a cross between her and Erykah Badu ('though August might protest).

Ahh, you remember. I dropped off that first comparison, but I had to spin Pluramon and make sure it was not various vocalists on that set 'cause, in my mind, it seemed so similar. Julee's inflection/imperfection is not quite so extreme. I put "Time For A Lie" as the opening track on my failed mogwars assassination attempt on Groon. His theme was krautrock or anything Nordic...and that was fun to put together. Sometimes, I really have to prod myself to listen to anything but poetunes :)

"being a muse to nothing and no one" That's the spirit!

Love this song, such an distinctive voice.

Elsiane gets me excited about music in the way that Bjork did back in the day. Check out my remix of Morphing. I believe it's the first time Elsiane has been remixed.

Scott, i'd have really loved to join mogwars but considering the physical distance i and the mogger i need to assassinate will probably be the last people standing. and woe is the one who needs to assassinate me!

wait, so you are actually paired with someone, and either he gets you first or you get him first? is that how it goes?

i have a million simultaneous downloads right now but i'll be sure to give the mixtape a listen when i get home tonight.

Colin, Elsieanne's voice is surely a huge part of the beauty, and she's also the songwriter, i believe, so good on her! there's also a bit of Blossom Dearie to her singing style.

Snorri7, hey there, i hear that she also rocks the stage live in her strange slithery ways. how cool that you remixed Morphing, i shall drop by and give it a spin, thanks for sharing.
