WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

As for the other day's disco Mogfest...

    Golden Ghetto Sex
  • Track:
    Discohouse

I'm online now.

Gameboy/Gamegirl sprung out of the Melbourne scene last year with a debut EP, Golden Ghetto Sex, that combines old skool hip hop (Somehow, nearly all tracks bring me back to J. J. Fad's Supersonic from the late Eighties.) and fresh electronic beats in a way that's kind of dope. Another goodie track not posted here is Pumps & Rumps (Zombie Disco Squad Remix), just so you know.

    Is it just me, or does "Discohouse" have a bit of "Bucky Done Gun" to it? I can definitely hear the JJ Fad thing as well.

    Yeah, I like that first one. I remember back to the beginning of the mixture of heavy duty electronics and hip hop..electro. I bought many of the records, but even when it was the Soul Sonic Force it felt a little uncomfortable..as in "less authentic". In the end it just wasn't for me, although I played the hell out of Hashim records like Al Naafiysh (The Soul)..a taste

    Cody LOVE that song & the vid is hilarious, watching the peoples reactions to the dancers. Some amazing dancing too.

    Amiel, fo sho!

    Dale, I give up, what's the answer? :D

    Aug, you feel me, yo! Luv it when they go, "Gin and tonic, this shit is ironic".

    Cody, a most valid sentiment. Hip hop's roots were subbacultchas that arose organically in the streets out of rap and beats. I think because I grew up on Eighties synth pop, of which the Australian club scene was a big proponent since day one, I am coming from somewhere else when I listen to these electro-hop things. A genuine hip hop subculture also grew (but not full blown) in certain parts of the Philippines, and I'm guessing those people relate with you more than the Aussie kids.

    Al Naafiysh ... niiiyshe. Someone, kill me ... I need to be reincarnated as a kickass dancer.

    Jeff & Scott, mmm-hmm. ::: snaps fingers :::

    Anna, we'll both agree, there is no other way to disco!
