  1. deadmandeadman says **what is the shortest distance between silence and noise?** when I stub my toe in the middle of the night the silence cracks. I like this track, I'm a sucker for a cello (viola?) in folk music.

  5. poebegone says dmdm, jeez, you're either typing very fast or i'm typing very slow. boy, does mogging make expert typists out of some of us. ;d hope ya like the two other songs on comment. i believe that's a cello. and vocals by Caroline Crawley of Shelleyan Orphan. i am a suckah for strings myself. 6. deadmandeadman says LOL. I type with one extended digit. You're on a great roll this Morn. (eve?). Great songs. The first and the third I'd never heard before and I like them a lot. Yo La Tengo? I don't think they've ever recorded a bad track.

  7. poebegone says toes being stubbed - so painful i recite a eulogy everytime it happens. am a huge YLT fan. HUGE. 7 PM. my saturday is trailing away and i guess yours just started. crazy timezone diff, i drag everyone down with my (nighttime) mourning music in your mornings.

  8. deadmandeadman says On the contrary Lady, Your posts generally contain such fine music. Far from draggin' me down you lift me up where I belong, LOL. YLT are not well known enough, but I admire the fact that they don't chase "hits". They make incredible music to please themselves, and it shows. Their songs glow. I like the way they cover other artists as well, their feedback-drenched version of **Little Honda** is to kill for.

  9. Bartleby says Your mute inspiration leaves me lost for words, Poe. -- To answer your question, may I susurrate to you: Murmur?

  10. poebegone says dmdm, Joe Cocker circa '80s, yo! LOL it was in very heavy rotation when i was a kid. agree - killer cover, their Little Honda. off the roof in the drenched-ness spectrum, a song that i'm certain will make me deaf someday, not mute. and always makes me think of The Jesus & Mary Chain, too, somehow. i love when you said their songs "glow" and they don't "chase" hits. reminds me of this amusing "sell out" section in the YLT official site that's been there for as long as i can remember. (late nineties, maybe.) this one image i'd saved has managed to survive computer changes -- Michael, i posed that question after i gave my own answer, stutter, and i must say murmur and susurrate aren't far behind. (hey, the band Murmur has got lots of appropriate songs, too.) i love that idea. i've been wanting to write a piece of fiction with a mute central character and trying to inspire myself to actually start writing. (it's all in my head still.) i told myself i'd get on it after 12 songs (one more 3-song post to go). i know that word "susurrate" from a song by a band called Ecstasy of Saint Theresa. didn't think i'd live to see it being used in a real (and lovely) sentence. 12. HelenMarie says This is a fine ~(not to mention sexy)~ way to start the day. Totally into your series of fine art and music...girl after my own heart. : ) I need to get to know Yo La Tengo better, I heard all good stuff but just don't have anything from yet (I can go without the bean pic. And that Lush tune is full of feeling...checkin on them.

  14. AA Coppertop says poe, Do you have the This Mortal Coil "Original Versions" disc? Here is The Apartments original of "Mr. Somewhere".

Lots more good stuff where that came from. Chris Bell's original "I Am The Cosmos" is also particularly good.

Talk about too-little-known artists. Where's *his* revival? (I wish I could share - nay, give away - the auto alarm that's been going off for the past half hour here. Any fans of Musique Concrète out there wanna take it off my hands?)

  16. Augusts1 says I need to get further into the Yo La Tengo void ilay, since everything I've heard by them I've enjoyed, I just haven't taken that next step of listening to a full album. The same for This Mortal Coil. Of course, being a shoegeezer from way back, Lush was a regularly listened to favorite of mine. Cool, freakalicious artwork too.

  17. scotfree says Been diggin' this post on-and-off all day poe! Seems morning and mourning music fits about anytime of the day. Learns new w-w-www-words. The art made my soul cringe and palpatate most pleasurably, that first one depicting the power of the fairer sex so appropos. While I d-d-do miss your words, save them for that novel. Do it!

  18. Dzendvokh says Great Post Ilay, I can never get enough Yo La Tengo, especially that album This Mortal Coil and Lush, not as familiar with, but hmmmm, they do go together. A moody Sunday evening here...
