  4. Dzendvokh says Great post Ilay...... The Music is tasty.... I can't believe those are not photographs. Excellent artwork!

  5. Bartleby says An excellent post, Poe. I love the association of your chosen artworks with the tunes. Like Dzen, I'm dumbstruck by the minutiae of the art. This may come from the mute front but it speaks volumes. Thanks for sharing with us.

  7. scotfree says Very heavy and cool sounds, more of the PInback family tree? These guys do a lot of good work.and keep good company- Amazon says the cover to the self titled '98 release was done by Eno..did he assist in any other way? Good stuff.

  8. Augusts1 says The first & last songs remind me of "*Michael Petak*":http://mog.com/Augusts1/blog_post/51775 who I wrote about on Mog some time ago. Liking these songs alot & not heard of this group. Love the artwork too, you have such great taste ilay! It IS hard to believe those aren't photos but I love artwork like that that plays tricks on your eyes.

  10. poebegone says annie, heya there, i was crazy about Three Mile Pilot in the nineties. it's Zach Smith (1/2 of Pinback) and Pall Jenkins (The Black Heart Procession) and two other awesome dudes. Nick, i had the exact same reaction when i first saw Rieko's art. almost passed 'em up then i caught the caption "pigment on paper" and was like, fuckin' hey, wait a minute... Michael, omiword you live. for a moment there i thought the untold persuasions of funk-fu had you swilling around in the pits of real-earth. glad to have you back. pat, you are indeed being missed. especially after that post you made on Tribes of the City which i so, so dug. you actively writing / recording music again, right? it's good to know.

  11. poebegone says Scott, Zach Smith is certainly the reason i only love Rob Crow second when it comes to Pinback. ...did anyone say ENO? By This River, from the self-titled EP: ~h5HdSlXC0dI.mp3~ Aug, listening to and much digging Michael Petak as i write. i luv luv luuuv treasure-hunting music. coincidentally i first discovered 3MP when i fished The Chief Assassin... out the bargain bin - it ended up being one of my two favorite albums of theirs. where is justice, i ask you. molli, thanks. according to the internet, those are drawings, not photos. is that insane or what? if those trees were indeed made by hand, they rock my 20/20 vision, truly.

  12. HelenMarie says If anyone can pull of being cool being mute, it's you. the art is especially cool.

  13. mollifire says whoa!! that's amazing! even after looking at them again, they still look like photos! wOw.

  14. scotfree says I suppose if you've drifted off, there's no better song than "By This River" to accompany the fade. a beautiful cover, left virtually unchanged from Eno's masterpiece. and those trees look very similar as the grainy film of "Pi" fades to black as well.

  15. Gegenschein says Wow, I'm so happy to see posts about 3MP! I was lucky enough to see them live in 1998... Hope the new album will come out this year... that "soon" has been on their site for like 2 years now? Also, I heard Toby is no longer with 3MP, he moved to Portland... LOL that was some time ago, too!

  16. poebegone says my god, i took close to 2 months to get back to this post. Helen, glad i can pull off being mute because my own noise irritates me, too. molli, i know, right? talk about dedication. scott, Eno and Pi in the same breath, aw you're making my head reel. Gegenschein, hey there, too true the "coming soon" has been dangling forever! glad to find a fellow 3MP freak in mog - yep, not enough mog love, i thought i needed to represent. (:

  17. Gegenschein says I've been sending them coffee every Christmas for several years now, addressed to the whole band - just to make a statement. Last year, fed up with that SOON, I took a can of spray paint to it... virtually, of course, in PhotoShop - to make it look like a graffiti - adding "How" in front and a question mark after... printed out and sent along with Gevalia boxes. I hope Pall at least got a good laugh out of it.

  18. poebegone says G, Christmas coffee, huh? i dig that. nice on the "How Soon" bit. they seem like guys with enough sense of humor to go around. so is Toby still with Black Heart Procession? i don't know anymore. i think my real question is, simply, what's up with them all? all it says everywhere is that they're recording new material (not so new anymore by the time it comes out).
