WHERE THE HOKEY POKEY "IS" WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT

Tank you! /NWOBHM for metal wednesday

Posted about 1 year ago
if the 'heads in the US drove / maimed / slayed their way to metal from blues-rock, those in the UK did so from punk rock, in what is now known as NWOBHM or the New Wave of British Heavy Metal movement, a favored metal subset of mine. associated acts of course include Diamond Head, Saxon, Motörhead, as well as Def Leppard, Iron Maiden. (in summary many of them sounded like Motörhead.)ages ago i had zero idea there was even such a movement but, thanks to a high school friend's older sister (hmm, i knew at least three extremely soft-spoken metalhead chicks), i briefly rocked out to '80s British heavy metal band Tank, led by Alistair Ward of The Damned fame. i had second-hand ownership of someone's Filth Hounds of Hades, Tank's debut album (Kamaflage, 1982), and always thought it an excellent release.Heavy Artillery

  2. Cody B says Monster Rawk! I wonder why NWOBHM didn't catch on too much in the USA. Acronym too long, ATL?

  3. scotfree says "i had second-hand ownership of someone's Filth Hounds of Hades" - I certainly hope no one pulls that one out of context on you! I think there was a good sized cult following for this music in the late 70s-early 80s US. I think you'd lump Judas Priest in eith this lot, and they were packin' the med sized halls (esp. in college towns) back then. And of course Def L....always a (guilty?, nah) pleasure. But I never heard Tank, so tanks for the intro. BTW, thanks again for the (audio only) video posts since my red button is verbotten at work!

  6. darmuzz says Completely forgot about this band until I played the song from your post! I used to love NWOBHM especially Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Diamond Head and first two Def Leppard albums - and of course, Girlschool and Rock Goddess!

  7. poebegone says Cody, were it not for copy&paste i would never get that acronym right. you know what, too? it is only one syllable short of its meaning. funny how it incorporates the two genres fighting over wednesday. Scott, someone's filth is someone else's treasure. hey, i dug Def Lep. yeah, the videos are because i have not a single metal album to my name. they're either from memory or i owned them in cassette tape. plus, the time it takes me to stream YouTube is now far outweighed by the time it takes to upload an mp3 and stream it just to make sure it works. Adam, um you're welcome, i think. was it something i said...?
