if the 'heads in the US drove / maimed / slayed their way to metal from blues-rock, those in the UK did so from punk rock, in what is now known as NWOBHM or the New Wave of British Heavy Metal movement, a favored metal subset of mine. associated acts of course include Diamond Head, Saxon, Motörhead, as well as Def Leppard, Iron Maiden. (in summary many of them sounded like Motörhead.)ages ago i had zero idea there was even such a movement but, thanks to a high school friend's older sister (hmm, i knew at least three extremely soft-spoken metalhead chicks), i briefly rocked out to '80s British heavy metal band Tank, led by Alistair Ward of The Damned fame. i had second-hand ownership of someone's Filth Hounds of Hades, Tank's debut album (Kamaflage, 1982), and always thought it an excellent release.Heavy Artillery
