YOU CAN'T NOT GET NO SATISFACTION

new Ghostland O, Howlin R, Wave W

Posted about 1 year ago
it's a new year, i'm glad to be herei listen to Howlin Rain and want to grow my hair / wonder how we've all survived without popping acid and the unabashed use of smoke machines / know that 90% of the most artistically liberal are now 60 years old. Howlin Rain from Oakland, California, are fronted by Comets on Fire guitarist Ethan Miller.the new album, Magnificent Fiend, is out this month from Birdman Records. if the track on post is sounding a little too soft than the Howlin Rain you're expecting, rest assured it isn't all like this. get your free download of the super classic rocker Dancers at the End of Time here: http://www.birdmanrecords.com/howlinrain/audio/Howlin_Rain_-_Dancers_At_the_End_of_Time.mp3linkage:more Howlin Rain from mogger leftoverking -http://mog.com/leftoverking/blog_post/108247http://www.myspace.com/howlinrainhttp://www.howlinrain.com/you make me feel brand newhave you listened to the title track of Ghostland Observatory's 2008 album? cuz i mean i could only hold off of crushing on Aaron Behrens for so long, and i am in this moment at the post-giving-up state. it isn't so much a hard fall as a crowd surfing, thanks to all the warm bodies that have leapt into his mosh pit of love long before me, so i am still hoping to emerge from this unscathed. he and Thomas Turner give new meaning to the frontman - backbone dynamic.the new album, Robotique Majestique, is out this month from Trashy Moped. track on comment.linkage:GLO at ACL from mogger amber -http://mog.com/amber/blog_post/118041http://www.myspace.com/ghostlandobservatoryhttp://www.ghostlandobservatory.net/everything old is new again"Never able to conquer depression, Borland committed suicide on April 26th, 1999, throwing himself in the path of an express train at Wimbledon station." [Wikipedia] although Korova Records (Echo and the Bunnymen) post-punk group The Sound had seen its final ending, it had a great run and some great music to show for.i work for nostalgia. track on comment.linkage:more The Sound from mogger dachmo -http://mog.com/dachmo/blog_post/127297

  1. PeppermintPattie says *Love* this track, El Rey. I'm most definitely going to check out the album! I'm not sure if I'll enjoy the other tracks on the album, though. I tend to lean towards the *soft*er side of music.

  9. scotfree says Whoa Nelly!! Slow down now....I haven't got past the first two. you know you're talkin' my stompin' decade there, can hear a lot of influx-Uriah Heep, Free, but maybe it's the name that conjured up Howlin' Wind, Graham Parker's first...anyway these are too cool. I wondered who was hoggin the west indian girl....... ...and, there's more

  11. leftoverking says dang, i went to the cd store, and they don't have it yet. the owner of the shop asked what the deal was with howling rain. i said, well four out of the the five members in the band were born and raised here and all purchased music from your shop! he is ordering a few copies today!

  12. Augusts1 says The Howlin' Rain song isn't movin' me too much, it's too jam bandy(sounds like I'm swearing there, heh) & I'm not into jam bands generally. The Ghostland I'm definitely down w/though, they are definitely groovy fo sho! And The Sound is pretty damn amazing. I saw Dachmo's post when he originally posted it & fell in love w/them & had a listen to "From The Lion's Mouth" on the dark side. I'd not heard of them until he posted about them.

  13. poebegone says Jeff, way to go at the CD store. loved the story. wait, Oakland CA is not where i remember you're at - what place did you mean, where the shop's at? i'm confused. what's not to love about GLO?!? talk about taking up smoking again! i'm in a really stressful place where all it takes for that to happen is if i catch a glimpse of someone lighting up. oh, and HR make me want to smoke again, too. ;d Scott, Graham Parker meets Uriah Heep can possibly be the "jam bandy" vibe August refers to in his comment, LOL. hey, if you have anything from Free to post, please do - i don't think i really know anything other than their existence. mind, those are all British groups you associated whereas HR are American. wonder if there's anything to that ...in a, you know, conspiracy theory kind of way.

  14. poebegone says Mike, ): ): ): that sucks. although i had the terriblest time with mog last night (see my reply to Britta's comment). these days you click upload and then wait forever. what's up with that? or you stop and re-upload over and over, which is what i do since i'm (probably) obsessive-compulsive. i wonder if people can realistically wink and frown at the same time... ); Aug, i was saying to Scott above that your "jam bandy" and his Graham Parker meets Uriah Heep could very well mean the same thing, he he. oh, well, not everything's for everyone but i like HR quite muchly. the music makes me want to grow my hair and grow pot. ...and start smoking again. GLO, however, make me want to commit all kinds of sins! * giggliness * The Sound are awesome, aren't they? the song above introduced me to them, in high school, so it has a special place in my heart. ohh, how long ago was that... (+

  15. poebegone says Pat, your comment didn't appear the first time. no matter, more opportunities for me to wax girlie over GLO. i am way far from Austin ;D but i gathered from the www that ACL last year was a major part of how GLO won everyone's attention because they totally rocked the stage. goodie, then!

  16. leftoverking says so poe, howlin' rain's ethan miller, ian gradek, and mike jackson all grew up here in eureka where i live. eathan's other band comets on fire and my old band the hitch used to play shows together when comets first formed in santa cruz. mike jackson's old band sake used to tour with my old band grout... and ian gradek commisioned me to build him a custom guitar about five years ago. (his older brother colin gradek recorded the first howlin rain album, and also recorded my old band the hitch ages ago in alameda) joel from howlin' rain also plays in the oakland band drunkhorse, whom my old band the hitch played a bunch of shows with over the past ten years. an incestuous cast of characters i feel privileged to know. a bunch of talented folks. but a jam band? i don't think so.

  17. amber says Ilay! I adore GLO and have tickets to see them this April...again. We had a fabulous time at their 2 shows in October, chronicled ad nauseum "here":http://mog.com/amber/blog_post/118041 . I hate to tell you, though, but Mr Behrens is mine, mine, mine. 100_8019

  21. poebegone says darn, i am missing my own party. i'm in the middle of a work day that i'm sure will end in tears, sweat, and blood. as always. i'll get back to you all tonight. for now i just want to say... Jeff - that's where i know you're at! Eureka, i found you. ;p Amber - "he is mega-sexy on stage and very very shy in real life." oopsy, i think a piece of my clothing just fell.

  23. poebegone says Jeff, thanks for indulging me on my question. i love hearing '6 degrees of separation' stories where someone becomes really big but to you he's still just the guy who puked in your toilet and things like that. i wonder if Drunkhorse released music online because i remember that name from somewhere. also, the first time i read your HR post before, knowing someone named Michael Jackson cracked me up. does he ever hear the end of it? Amber, honey, i linked to that mog post of yours up there, but the Flickr pages! ohhh i have bookmarked 'em and Anne's pages for maniacal staring over the weekend, possibly with popcorn on my side. don't i know it - i have stiff competition! like i said, i crushed on him but instead collided with the countless warm bodies already there before me. (; good morning and good night, dearies.

  24. leftoverking says there was some drunkhorse on the stoner rock group on multiply. i know drunkhorse's in tounges was on a blog somewhere... mike j. is a hell of a guitar player, and one hell of a bartender, and a damn fine human being... but yes, does get joked about his name from time to time...

  25. HelenMarie says I love your post and the comments are crackin' me up! Aaron Behrens, humm...that's so cute. I could totally see you and amber in the mosh pit throwing elbows to get to him first. " i wonder if people can realistically wink and frown at the same time... ); " I think I can but I am a compulsive winker. I've had to explain my-over-winky-self to Mike in the past. ; ) ; )

  26. poebegone says Jeff, there is a STONER rock group in Multiply?? did i know this and was i ever invited? LOL. Helen, i can't stop laughing over your revelation of being a compulsive winker. where is this explanation of your over-winky self? i am dying to find out!

  27. HelenMarie says ilay - I'm so glad you get my humor! Here's how that came about. When Mike (marig) got mogger of the week, I sent a quick congrats, and a wink. Which he took as sarcasm. (this was all light hearted I'm sure you know) So I explained I wink to give comfort. After that I added extra winks to confuse the man. Then it spiraled out of control and we finally had a wink off competition in one of my threads...? Here's the end result. http://mog.com/SunshineDaydream/blog_post/143663#comments Though extra winks are sure to pop up from time to time (esp. if I have a couple to many drinks) Take it easy, my dear!

  28. poebegone says hey, i do remember that wink off! i caught the tailend of it, fortunately for me. well, let me know the next wink off so the sister can lend support. (;
