didyaknow... Japan by The Creatures /NWW

Posted over 4 years ago
to explain my quest, i enlisted the help of Rotten Tomatoes, except i took the liberty of replacing a few words in my borrowed synopsis: (guess the '80s movie, for extra kicks.)"When the Huxtables discover the Ewings are planning to use the missing mp3 of the Covenant as a weapon, ALF enlists archaeologist-adventurer Officer Tom Hanson, Jr. (Johnny Depp) to locate the biblical Shermer High School where the remains of the broken tablets of Judd Nelson were placed. En route, Depp and his feisty ex-girlfriend, me (Sherilyn Fenn), must escape the clutches of evil VICIs, duplicitous "natives," and a nest of venomous snakes--not to mention the wrath of Yahoo Serious."these creatures:clearly i've been searching for a song. like, d-uh! i've loved this song since the '80s but the artist and title have escaped me. so i fired an SOS out to mog one day in April last year, including the lyrics, which, by a wondermous spurt of photographic memory, i remember 85%. alas, none of the same 1.5 peeps hanging out in my mog in those days recognized it. [read the old post here.]then the most amazing thing happened. no, i didn't find my answer, but i did find two separate emails from two different people who not only knew the song but had and shared with me its mp3, in both cases labelled as Japan by The Creatures. but none of us believed it was indeed Siouxsie Sioux and Budgie so my quest did not stop there. FYI: i am a mean-ass Googler, and this song was absolutely nowhere to be found online in those days.then the most amazing thing happened. i found my answer! - courtesy of one of the aforementioned two peeps, who said, and i quote: "It turns out that my mis-labelled mp3 WAS labelled correctly, and this 80s song WAS by The Creatures. Thing is, it wasn't THE Creatures of whom we're aware (the Siouxsie Sioux spinoff); it's an Italo-Disco band from the 80s, more popular in Europe than here."yay! thank you, 23platypi, from the bottom of my eighties heart. you can find more awesome info on the song/band in his comment found on the old post. [the link, yet again.]not these creatures:

  1. scotfree says Ha ha, Indiana is right next door Jonsey! Glad you finally completed your quest. I remember that post because from your clues a tune jumped to mind that fit about 60% of the criteria. But, you were so sure about your 85% that it did not seem to merit embarrasing myself with a flunking grade. Anyway, perseverance pays off and there are so many who rise to this kind of a challenge. In case you want more of the oriental theme, here's "Japan" by Be Bop Deluxe ~wsmDPvavX5l.mp3~

  2. fistula spume says Fun post Poe. I like this Japan song. So nice when a search is finally ended with happy results. I like these Creatures too. Funny though my first thought was it was a song called The Creatures by the band Japan. That album cover is priceless.

  3. poebegone says Scott, you're hogging all the magic beans. wish you'd said something back then - hey, i flunked P.E. 3x in university. that's 3 sore sights on my transcript everytime i tried for a job after graduation. doesn't get more embarrassing than that! hooray for Be Bop Deluxe, that was another goodie Japan song. oh we're doing Japan songs now, are we? CocoRosie want to join in... ~k5TrnBiZQ6x.mp3~

  4. poebegone says Sam, it's hard to believe you when you say "fun post" because your avatar is fun, dammit! thinking i can go out wearing a costume like that and say the meanest things to strangers and they'll still offer me ice cream. ;d one of my longest-running theories was it was really a song called The Creatures by the band Japan - because it isn't much of a stretch from David Sylvian's art rock sound. and yeah, gotta love discogs.com for these album covers.

  5. fistula spume says Yup. Hard to be mean to a guy with an avatar like this when he's calling you a poopy head. I'm enjoying the dynamic my blue bear is bringing to my comments. I could sugar it up by telling you "I wuv you". Is there a throwing up emoticon? :p

  6. Marigold says Great post Ilay. Done in a fashion in which you could conceive. I love it. I am envious of your perseverance. I just say "fuck it" far to much in life. Do you think the new Indiana Jones flick will be good? Is it possible after all these years?

  7. Marigold says ..it should say... *only* you could conceive.

  8. poebegone says Sam, your avatar is death by cuteness. here is my best pukey face... :-@ funny you should mention the posting dynamic - my recent male mug (Mark Kozelek's) saw a slight increase of Multiply adds from ladies and guys giving me the guy talk (e.g. porn). i had to change it before i caused anyone to further embarrass themselves!

  9. poebegone says Mike, oh my, let's go wash your mouth with soap, dear boy! when i'm feeling like a "fuck it!" is in order, i listen to a lot of Arab Strap. gaaahh... fook et! well, Harrison Ford is now a caricature of himself. and Jurassic Park was probably Steven Spielberg's last fun adventure movie. and i'm not too hot about scriptwriter David Koepp (War of the Worlds, Mission: Impossible, Snake Eyes). so things are looking a little grim. but i am stoked by the addition of Cate Blanchett, Shia LaBeouf, Jim Broadbent. so i am hoping for the best.

  11. poebegone says M, no apologies needed please. you are, like, the world's nicest guy. "holy s___! I assume you just rattled that all off the top of your head!" - of course not! i had to check Koepp's name online. ;p hey, if you were a hiphop star, you could totally be Mikey Mike and the Funky Bunch. (i better be IN the funky bunch!)

  15. scotfree says hhmmmpphh. After all that great frivolity above, I almost hate to bring this melancholy to the party. But, to quote Mr M. "fuck it" - Final Fantasy are quite "(I'm) Afraid Of Japan", as this one from the cutely titled He Poos Clouds (somehow, I think that ties in with Sam's avatar) shows us :) ~NTwCpgergcL.mp3~
