constant home of my devotion

Posted over 3 years ago

Did you hold that thought about riffing? You know that leaving, departing from a place physically, is never as simple as just leaving. There are things that need doing—fly, breathe sea air, and find the elusive new perch of mine, to name some—and I can not seem to start them for as long as I am riffing, here. In other words, I apologize that I took some days to get used to the idea of leaving, with a pledge to return. It won't be soon but it will be on a day of good weather and from a different zip code.

I will be traveling around Cambodia, to the remote towns, and then the neighboring countries and their remote towns. I harbor the possibly illusory notion that I will find low-commitment, momentary work in these parts and be making enough to keep going. I ache to be transported to other places, too, that will have to wait. I am now sitting out the final days of my internet connection and will be far removed from such in the numerous coming months. I will have my stuff shipped to my mother's and take one luggage with me; in there, my MacBook and whatever music's in it, many of which will remind me constantly of you. One day I will come home, to the Philippines, but I've decided I'm not prepared to do this yet.

Oh, the itinerant life! Come on, pull for me. The part of me that isn't the bereaved MOG defector is endlessly thrilled. Don't forget: We need muses for musings. That's the way it works. Mine is you, indefinitely, but also I require other forms of life support. Happy April Fools' Day, Fourth of July, Moon Festival, All Souls' Day, Veterans Day, Boxing Day, birthday, and Mogversary.

See ya, Cambodia! Remember to water the plants, MOG!

    Just so you know, you're not rid of me. I'll be popping in for a couple more days to partake of your tirades, memes, curses, anything goes, and, to everyone's relief, this will be my last post for the time being.

    And now for some sort of a reverse send-off...

    The Helio Sequence - Back to This (from Keep Your Eyes Ahead)

    We were giving up time. We were giving on back, and all that's left to do, sometimes you're left to do. Sometimes there's nothing left to say. We were giving up time. We were giving up ties and everyone knew it, too. Rope busted, and disgusted, and all we knew, we cared but it always comes back to this. Yes, it always comes back to this again. We were kicking around. We were broken up, bound, and everything fell to fear. Sometimes you can relate, sometimes there's nothing left to say. We were giving up time. We were giving up ties and everyone knew it, too. Tongue-tied and divided, the words just couldn't be found. It always comes back to this. Yes, it always- Six feet below, a world flooded, free. How should I know? It's so far from me. I could try for more, I could settle up for less. I'm not keeping score, I don't expect you to confess. One side is made, the other side, too soon. I flip a coin. There's more sides than two. There's trouble ahead but there's just no going back. I pray for rain while the water's rising fast and it always, oh, it always comes back to this again.

    That is such an adorable pic of you! Really digging that first tune by Big Pink, it's very fuzzy. Ooo the Helio song is shimmerlicious. Nice TJ&MC cover. And that last one is creepily great & yet disturbing, I'm loving it.

    Ok, goddamnit, I've avoided it too long. See you later my dearest, you will be missed but I know we'll eventually write soon by email. Happy trails, it sounds like it will be quite an adventure!

    I've been listening to one of the first you taught me to love the last few:

    out of the box
    down colorful hill
    wind lifting tired feet
    skin sensing challenge ahead

    prayers prayers prayers
    for success
    prayers prayers prayers
    always die in time

    there's your wish, now go have an adventure!!!

    Jox - Oh, no. You just gave me license to do anything. If I wake up in Vegas with a different civil status, it'll be on your conscience.

    Scott - Oh, man, stop listening to that depresso! Before you know it, you'll be starting a trend of gloom-funk. Hey, not a bad idea... Thanks for many things, Scottie.

    Neill - God, that's true, I know people of the sort. Who am I kidding? I should just shack in full A/C hotels and hire tour guides.

    Jeff - You are a true and kickass friend, you will be in my thoughts. (Plus I filched some songs you posted as souvenir.) I would hate me if I don't visit with periodic dispatches.

    Dale - You all didn't make it easy to unplug. I got so down when I knew for sure I had to step away from this crazy 'verse I love. It'll be your duty to update my music on my return.

    Chris - I do not doubt you can hunt me down. Are you joking? -I can't get real mail in the city. >/ You'll always be my brother from the far side. Take care and keep writing.

    Chris - Thanks, it is a go-with-the-flow sort of journey at the moment but, thankfully, with good tunage as companion. Here's hoping it will start to take shape at some point.

    Bruce - That quotation is just the mantra I am needing for these travels. How wonderfully psychic are you? I will write 'em as I see 'em and come back with an entire dissertation.

    Mike - Hey, you're not allowed to feel like shit in any post of mine, you hear? I will match your Ilay love with Mike love and I'm sure the odds are not that stacked against my ever reaching Minnesota. Or somewhere near.

    Ardy - Thank you. I'll be sure to visit, bearing gifts from faraway lands and tasty cookies, and perhaps even say hello in various languages. (;

    lak - I will miss you, my friend. Keep enriching MOG with your insightful thoughts and exotic travel stories so it won't feel so strange when I come back with more of the same.

    Charles - Oh, please. You far more than make do as an original voice in MOG, with subtle wit and humor that I can only hope to develop someday. The thrill outweighs the hesitation, and onward I march!

    Hey, everyone. It's my last day in the online cosmos and I may no longer be able to respond to comments in the coming days. I may still be able to read 'em on my internet phone, so thank you in advance.

    Anna - I am sad to leave but not worried, MOG is in good ( =bad ) hands with you here. For you, dear darkling, I've left only plants that thrive in the dark. You'll know them by their distinct scent. ;d I'll be thinking of you everytime I do something doomy or wicked, which you know will be all the time.

    Rob - Your words and music and I have had some great times together. I know you'll be even wiser the next time I see you and I will most likely be gloomier (or, worse, sunnier). Keep rallying behind skate kicks on my behalf!

    ZR - That's wonderful. Life is incredibly slow outside Vientiane but I know you always bring your inner fun gal along with you. Shoot me an email if it gets too humdrum, I could indeed be menacingly near. (;

    Mike - Oh, sob, I already miss your brimful self and chroniclings but The Bird and the Bee assure me that you're just a listen away. I will be sure to instigate all sorts of Mardi Gras in your name. I do not doubt you'll be ably hiking and dancing on the day I walk back to MOG. Take care, Knifey!
