I have been Ziinnngggedly inrumford-informed that "music is not a game". I now live in a confusing quagmire...what was that guess-the-artist mixtape listening event that my brother-in-law and I always looked so forward to?? Forget that, here's today: how do you make your mixtapes? do you have a mood in mind, a passion you want to explain sonically? however you make yours, here's a fun technique that uses MOG's new player technology (careful now, don't call it a "game" please...) - Start off with two of your favorite artists. Armed with your own spectacular knowledge of all things musical, we are going to let MOG's artificial intelligence "bridge the gap" between the two artists. Pick a favorite or themic song by one of them to start your playlist. Make sure the radio button is on, and slide the bar to the right for "similar artists". Now's the fun part...using your knowledge of "all things musical" (look...I quoted myself), think of the things you know about your other artist. Which of the "similar artists" selections navigates toward the 2nd artist's sound?....or their scene?...or people they may have worked with?...or their favorite candy?...well, that's a bit overboard, but you get the idea? Make your selection and it becomes the next step in the playlist. Start playing the tune just selected and "reset" the radio reference by scrolling the bar to the left under "artists only"...when it fills in the list, slide it back to the "similar artists" side and repeat the selection process...always trying to move closer and closer to your 2nd artist. The playlist is complete when you reach a tune by your 2nd artist...if the playlist is too short to suit you, choose another artist to navigate to - or go back to the one you started with. If this were a game, I might be tempted to call it "MOG Sliders", but since my zziinngging I know better. I almost gave up initially when I chose too distant of musical brethren to find any common ground, at least on MOG. But Ricky Nelson and 50 Cent may have some sampled angle obscured to me...all I'm saying is - don't give up if you hit a dead end! My playlist "Other Faves" box tells me the Arctic Monkeys rate at the top of my plays, though I couldn't tell you the last time I listened to them. So, rather than make a monkey of MOG (nyuck, nyuck...), I made this sample for ya - Mott to Monkeys ... have fun kiddies!

I'm goin' ape over this..sweeet like a 'nana
heya C, I just learned that it's easiest to peel a banana from the non-stem end...give it a try. You can't make a monkey outta me!!
Seeds, Stems, non-stems...either (end) ends up working for me...what were we talking about again.
We used to make mix tapes were two folks combined to compile. I start with a song, then you have to pick the next song before mine is over and providing a linking fact..No linking fact can be reused over the course of the mix.
So Pink Floyd's Time goes into Doug E. Fresh's The Show because the line in The Show, "six minutes Doug E. fresh you're on," because the Doug E. song uses the concept of time like the PF song..next could be a song like Karn Evil Nine (lyric match)..I think you need drugs for this.
which segues into Elton John's "Friends" or perhaps John Sebastian's theme to "Welcome Back Cotter"? oh yeah...the drugs are kickin' in about now...
The artist guessing with the bro-in-law was always a much anticipated event. They lived roughly 500 mi away in Missouri, but regardless how tiring the trip had been - we'd always be deep into it within an hour of arrival. He's a big 80's hair band guy, and while I don't really know my Damn Yankees from my Cinderella. I could cream him with anything else.
