Metalcore's as good a name as any

"Metalcore" is kind of a strange term for me, in that it's been used to describe a pretty wide range of sounds. Bands like Strife and Hatebreed put thrash together with east coast hardcore's crushing breakdowns in the early 90's, building on 80's crossover bands like DRI and the Cro-Mags. As time went by, more bands took this formula and started interjecting other metal influences - harmonic guitar solos, complex rhythms or time changes, Scandinavian death metal-style progressions, even (gasp) clean melodic vocals.
