Far and away one of the most promising names in electro-pop and funk at the moment, Gordon Voidwell is a name you're going to hear more and more about in the near-future. Already earning accolades for funky jams like "Ivy League Circus," his latest single, the Bronx-born cratedigger is instantly charming to hip-hop, funk, and indie geeks, and that rep will only grow once he releases his debut album. I first heard about Gordon through a cool song on the Blue Scholars site below...
"White Friends is a song about privilege. Privilege is a complex thing, but in short, I've got a lot of white friends and I love them all. They've shaped my ideas of friendship in a lot of ways. At the same time, I reached a point in my life - in my late teens - where I began to realize how their privilege and wealth shapes their reality/view of the world. Sometimes, I simply can't relate. I think some black kids who went to private schools like the one I attended would lash out and just try to alienate those kids. Me, I think it's important to just share my experience, knowing damn well that they understand what I'm talking about. It's cool, they dig it, they've got money and are endowed with special privilege so they don't get upset by very much. Haha (I'm joking, kinda)." -GV
