For over a decade now, Australian singer-songwriter Xavier Rudd has been one of the most intriguing acts around, and 'Spirit Bird' cements this fact. Blending intimate alt-folk with the sounds of the Aborigines, the album is unlike anything you've heard, managing to sound both modern and part of a much larger cultural tradition at the same time. To celebrate the album's release, Rudd provided MOG with some of his favorite "rise up" tracks, ranging from classic rock cuts from Jimi Hendrix and Bob Dylan to R&B jams by James Brown and Nina Simone.
