Beirut - In The Mausoleum

Posted about 4 years ago

In my little circles, Beirut is pretty hip at the moment. "The Flying Club Cup" is a pretty great album, but it didn't grab me as much as it's grabbed many of my friends, and it wasn't until I saw this video that I realized why.

There's a dvd, available here which takes every song on The Flying Club Cup and records its performance in random locations around new york- an apartment, a church, the street, etc.

The great part about this, though, is that all the songs were re-recorded on location, which really colors the sounds and dirties it up. The album (and especially the song posted below) has a slick and clean studio sheen all over it, which seems to betray the feel that their aesthetic would seem to play to. The difference between the track below and the version recorded on the album is day and night.

This, right down here, seems to be how it should be done.

  2. nowreen says Wow! I love it, it's got this raw, real, earthy feeling to it. That's exactly how it should be. My favorite is the watermelon drumming. Just watched Nantes, too, and it's amazing. Thanks for this!
