love this song, had never heard of Ane Brun before but her voice is quite striking. i love that Ron Sexsmith is such a ordinary, and quite frankly, homely looking guy. i'm sick of slick, anorexic looking singers in tight jeans with greasy hair. ok, i'm done. that was my rant. here's the video for Song No. 6...note: don't watch the video if you've been drinking.

goodmusiconly says Ane Brun (album Temporary Dive): check out To Let Myself Go, Temporary Dive, and Little Lights with Syd Matters ... all very good. Though I don't mind that she sounds like Billie Holiday here, her voice has a different quality in these others.

Fedge: this might sound crazy but i never actually thought of Billie Holiday when i heard this song. i thought Ane Brun's voice was distinctive but not in the vein of Holiday. you know who really makes me think of Billie when i hear her is Madeline Peyroux. have you heard her stuff? i like her though, i like that kind of old, scratchy voice. no one beats Billie though. Lemontwist: god i wish i could carry a tune! but i can't, not even to save my life could i! of course this does not keep me from singing loudly and with passion while i drive my car (as long as there are no passengers of course). and yes, eat a sandwich and i'll add take a bath! Goodmusiconly: ohhh, thanks for the reccomendations on Ane! i've never heard of her before this song (thanks Paste sampler!) and i'm totally intrigued. Amoeba here i come!

goodmusiconly says I think all of the songs on the Temporary Dive album are worthy, if you have any compunction about getting the whole thing. I actually was going to post the same vid yesterday but got sidetracked. You beat me to it! Brun has a bit of Shawn Colvin, Fiona Apple, and Billie in her voice. A few others, too, that I can't quite pin down. You're spot on re: Peyroux, she is a vocal doppleganger. But honestly, I've only heard her cover of Elliott Smith's "Between the Bars." The first time I heard it, I actually had to look online to make sure that Elliott hadn't covered a Billie Holiday song!
