Sonic Youth Debuts New Songs at McCarren Pool

Posted about 1 year ago

Sonic Youth just don't know when to stop do they? And that's a good thing for us. At last week's McCarren Pool in Brooklyn, the indie-rock legends played the last show ever there by opening with two new songs. The songs are so new that they neither have titles nor lyrics. Though Thurston Moore explained to crowd that the band had just began writing material for their new album a few days ago, hence the lack of lyrics, the audience treated the brand new songs as though they were Sonic Youth golden oldies.

Moore sang the first song wihich had riffs akin to The Stooges, but was still tightly bound melodically to their last album, 2006's Rather Ripped. The second song was executed by a brooding Kim Gordon in a fashion that harkened back to Youth's early 90's material. As the song went on, the vocals gradually built up to an ear-splitting finale only to come to a dead stop at the end.

No word is said on when the album is set to hit shelves. Read more here.

Not that it matters but do they have a label picked out for their new record?  I believe they're done w/ Geffen...?  Guess a band like SY can just put it out on their own or something...
