The Mekon's Jon Langford and The Ex's Kat Ex release debut album

The Mekons and The Ex crashed through the first-wave of the 1970's British punk scene and still remain two of the most influencial punk bands to date. The Ex, with more than 20 full-lengh studio albums to date, have collaborated with the likes of members of Sonic Youth, Chumbawamba, and avant-garde cellist Tom Cora. Through the years, they've experimented with non-Western types of music, incorporating Turkish, Ethiopian, and Hungarian types of music into their punk sound. Like The Ex, The Mekons, led by Jon Langford, have stuck it out over the years, churning out raw, post-punk tunes. They too have branched out into other areas on the musical spectrum, most notably with Langford's The Waco Brothers, a punk band tinged with American country influences like Johnny Cash and Gram Parsons.
Now, these two wordly anarchists have joined forces to form the aptly named KatJonBand, who will release their self-titled debut through Carrot Top Records. According to their publicist, KatJonBand "is a tough album; stripped down, basic, and to the point." The album features Kat on drums and Jon on guitar with the two of them sharing a microphone highlighting Jon's gruff voice against Kat's bell-like vocals. The album is set to be released on September 23. You can visit KATJONBAND media page for more info.
