Death Cab For Cutie Live Session

For the life of me I cannot remember why I impulsively shelled out thirty dollars to join the DCFC fan club. I did this a couple months ago; I think I thought I would find the inside scoop on the new album somewhere on their site. In the end, the other side of their flashy fan club site was sorely disappointing.

However, the other day I received an e-mail telling me that if I was one of the first 20 to respond I would win tickets to see death cab record a live session for public radio in Chicago.
Well, I just moved back to Chicago and I recently acquired an ancient, used, blackberry on e-bay. The fan club and this large chunky black plastic portable e-mail box enabled me to win these tickets.

I sat front row, had an amazing time, and got to hear some new tracks live.
It was a good morning.

You can see all the pics here:

Modest Mouse:Still Just Floating On?

more then a week ago XRT, a radio station here in chicago, played modest mouse's new single, dashboard. i was at work in an echoy bakery and it was difficult to hear. but i felt disappointed. tonight i happened upon it online and gave it an actual listening to. i'm still not all that impressed.
i keep coming across posts whinging about the modest mouse past. they want the modest mouse we were listening to years ago. i loved it then and even now, but they needed to grow. good news for people who love bad news was fantastic. i am glad it was so well received. two years after it came out without any new modest mouse i was beginning to fear that when we did get some, it would be stuck in their recent success.
with the release of this song i worried my concern was just.
i am still going to buy the album. i am still going to listen to it. i just wanted something new and so far i am not convinced i am going to get what i crave.
how many times did they push the release of this album back?
anybody disagree?

Ever have a conversation with someone and want access to their itunes library?

My little sisters friend was one of these people. She recently got an ipod and had no music to speak of on her computer. So she synced up his library.
Her friend and I always had the same taste in music. Mog would have pointed me his way. Now i have her ipod and subsequently his music.
I am in heaven.
She's in town for the holidays.

Today is an interpol day. I drank whiskey last night. That may be why.

So I have been digging her for a bit, but when did she wander into the synth pop realm that seems to be all the rage these days?

Frou Frou, Psapp, Etc...

Her voice still does it for me.

What do you think?

I dig it more over time. But it just came as a bit of a shock.

Music and Dating

Does the one you cuddle with have to be into exactly what you are into?
Let us use a ven diagram to illustrate this.

The overlap...how important is it? I have dated women where our respective circles might as well have been on top of one another. And when that is the case things seem to work out longer. I have never ended things based on music, but is there a link between the longevity and music that the give couple is into respectively?

More Swedish Goodness

While walking down a moving walkway in Chicago's Midway Airport the song 100 Degrees made it's way into my iPod's shuffle. I was hooked. I hadn't really given them a listen. I was coming off a week of drinking and lying in the sun in Daytona, FL. This band will make your ears happy.

Key Tracks: 100 Degrees.
                   My Friend and the Ink

Kings of Leon

The fast steady pace intrigued me, but it's the vocals that keep dragging me back. It's the sort of music that you walk with a bob of the head to. Their sound reminds me of a small hot, muggy, and certainly smokey room. And that's a great thing.
A perfect band for the summer of 2006.

Key Tracks: Slow Night, So Long (Aha Shake Heartbreak) [make sure you stick around for the "rise and shine all you gold digging mammas" at the end]
