I was going to blog about this earlier but came down with some food poisening and didn't feel like I could do a decent job about it. I am better now so I am going to try it again.
Last Saturday I had the chance to check out the Legendary Pink Dots who are a british band that lives in Amsterdam. Why they live there I don't know....it could be lifestyle, it could be taxes, it could be the hash...who really knows these things. Anywho...I read about them in the paper that day and for some reason fixated on the words "ambient" and "electronica" and I thought it would be something I could really get into.
The opening act was called "Big City Orchestra". I wasn't really sure when they exactly started to play. Okay, I know the actual time but it sounded like they were tuning up. Their second number sounded like a thunderstorm....so I am sure they were GOING for that so in that respect, it was sucessful. They also peformed a piece where they had about 5 people come out in a albino white cousin it outfit with their faces fully covered in locks. They carried huge white eggs that contained candy and plastic. These they threw out like confetti. They were actually a bit scarey if you ask me.
The Legendary Pink Dots have apparantly been around for a very long time. They had most of their discography available for puchase which was a big table indeed! Their music is sort of dark, sort of goth with some industrial and noise thrown in. Reminded me of sisters of mercy vs Souixie. The lead singer had a low voice and he wore a pink shawl...like a wrap. There was one song that was really more of building of intensity of noise than it was a melody. I can see how some people could really get into it....but not me. I left just before the end. I don't regret seeing them but I can't say that I will go again.
Oh, a little thanks to folks adding me as a friend. People gotta post on here, it is the only way that it will keep it alive. Talk about anything music...I will eat it up.

My Trusted MOGs
Sorry to hear about your food poisoning....
Thanks for turning me on to the LPD -- I find that I like 'em! It's like picking a scab: it kind of hurts, but it feels good, too. Heh heh. Good for you, for going to hear them. It's important to continually expand one's listening horizons, isn't it? I never know what I am going to like, until I hear it. And I find my tastes are wide-ranging.
I'm so jealous you're going to see Beth Orton. So jealous.
