THE MUSIC BLOGGING HIVE MIND

New, old discoveries

Posted over 2 years ago
Despite decades of record collecting and an intense music-listening habit, there are always those artists who seemed to slip through the cracks. You've read the critics' praise, heard of the drug-induced demise and you've thumbed through the LPs in the racks but never picked one up.After thirty years, I finally picked up Hang On to a Dream which compiles all his early material. Great stuff...particularly, "How Can We Hang On To A Dream". I read that Hardin was totally against adding the strings and admittedly on some songs it is heavy-handed...but on this title track it is simple and makes the song truly haunting...a masterpiece

  2. Eltuercas says At first I thought, old man, you're slowing down. But since the song reloads everytime I toggle back to your post, it's gotten to really grown on me. Is the rest of it less string-heavy?
