MOG MOG

BECAUSE THE WEB MOSTLY SUCKS

Artist:

For the second time in as many weeks, I ended up at a show that was quite a bit more bizarre than I had anticipated. But as Perry Farrell once wrote "Nothing's Shocking". Okay, so maybe it wasn't shocking, but a little surprising? Yes. Just a little.

There was this drunk woman at the show yelling at me "Someone get him some food, he's going to die!"

Click the photo (or link), and you'll see in the review that he actually has a genetic disorder called Marfan Syndrome. But even discounting his physical appearance, it was still a freak show.

ok, i get it. he reminds me of Courtney Love circa 1992. too bad there's no sound clips on that site, or i am just missing them?

Ahh... sound clips. I did post some for a while, and while most independent bands don't mind, not all labels are cool with it.

But I could start posting clips with these posts on MOG!

I was in a small theatre group and we did this fund raiser with them and they went on first and proceeded to drink all the booze we had for the other bands (that were of legal age). They sounded horrible. Pitchfork loves them, and they get great reviews - go figure. Yep, the lead singer is really really skinny but he swears he isn't a junkie. Some sort of dengenerative disorder or something. Maybe he has Joey Ramone syndrome.

Joey Ramone actually had Marfans Syndrome too. Seen these guys open up for the Yeah Yeah Yeahs last year. I thought they were great; discounting the freakiness of his appearance. It was a really shocking show though, and not a good match for the YYYs. After I got home the next day, I checked their mySpace page. The lead singer had posted a message explaining his condition and why he looks the way he does; something he really plays up a live show. (He did come out wearing a shirt that said "I'm not annorexic") But, some research turned up a list of other musicions who suffer the same disorder. Joey Ramone was one of the more recognizable names.

Interesting band. I'd like to see them again sometime. Especially now that I know what they are all about.

I expressed my bias on a personal level, but I really would listen to these guys with an open ear when given the chance. I try to not let anyones misdeeds effect what I think of their work. I know plenty of brilliant musicians and artists who are complete assholes or basket cases. The one time I did see them, they literally cleared the room (which means nothing in the grand scheme of rock n' roll). It was also pretty early in their career, though (2004).

This guy is neck-and-neck with Kevin Barnes in the freakout department (should I add Isaac Brock)?

Love the quality of your photos always.

There were some grooves that the band got into that I enjoyed, but not that gut-level of enjoyment that I feel with other music. Just more like: This is a bit of a freak show and the band is building it up.

Funny you say that, because I was listening to the song you posted and thinking it just didn't go with the pictures I was looking at. I would've expected the music to be way out there given his antics.
