Is there such a thing as Too Much Music?
Since I joined MOG almost two years ago many more music blogs and sites have sprung up not to mention huge music/mp3 compilation sites like The Hype Machine. So some of the thrill of discovering and savoring new music is missing now that there is so much instant gratification. I find myself listening for no more than 10 or 15 seconds now to online songs before deciding yes or no. And all music fans knows that some songs are growers and need time to develop in your aural mind like a Polaroid and may not catch you on the first listen.
I can easily spend 8 hours visiting blog after site after blog listening to songs and playlists and videos then choosing what I want to download, share et al. And even though I find more and more that allot of the blogs overlap in showcasing the new releases there are always almost too many songs to get through and hold straight in your mind after a time.
Do you think all of this choice and all of this access to practically every band and song, new and old, in existence is expanding our music vocabulary, cultivating our audio taste and sharpening our critical listening skills or dulling and deadening it?

searching through the mind-numbing blizzard overload for the gems...can be frustrating to be sure....which only makes the discovered gems more precious. Surfing the blogs gets old after a while..but for me, the MOG always satisfies.
A valid point. I try to limit my downloads, do buy from ITunes when there's something not readily available, and listen to the local college radio more than to anything on the net. It helps me to make an effort to get my old bones out to live music and gigs as often as affordable.
