MOG MOG

BECAUSE THE WEB MOSTLY SUCKS

(7)

Milkbomb's CD Release Party was at The Ash Street Saloon last Saturday night.  The blues festival was going on that night and I stumbled in to the club around 11:30.  A band called I Disagree was just finishing up (ehh) so I grabbed a stiff drink from the bar.  When Milkbomb hit the stage it was like rock and roll had been born again.  Not since the glory days of the mid nineties had I seen raw (dare I say grunge?) rock and roll portrayed in such a modern way.  It's loud and angry, but it's catchy as hell.  The boys like to jump around with each other to it and the girls just stand at the front and smile.  AND THEY DESTROYED THEIR INSTRUMENTS AT THE END OF THE SET!  Who does that anymore?  Certainly not unknown bands who clearly can't afford to replace the guitar that is now in fourty six pieces on the dimly lit stage.

I bought a CD (None of These People are real) afterward and it is pretty indicative of their live set, just toned a bit so that the melodies can shine through a bit more.  The singer told me that they recorded it in a basement for less than 450 bucks.  I don't know if that's the truth or just a tongue in cheek reference to Nirvana's Bleach album.  I don't know if their album is as good as Bleach....but it's as good as anything else on Sub Pop circa 1989.

I'm posting "Ashtray", what they call the first single off the record.  You can download this song free from their myspace page at http://www.myspace.com/milkbombband or at www.milkbomb.net
