I'm sure most of you know Mike Patton from his many amazing projects (Faith No More, Fantomas, Mr. Bungle, Tomahawk, Peeping Tom, etc).  His new Italian Orchestral/Operatic project Mondo Cane, a collection of covers of Italian pop songs from the 50's 60's and 70's, is absolutely MINDBLOWINGLY GORGEOUS.

Here is a link to a vid of an entire performance in Amsterdam.  The opener "Il Cielo in Una Stanza" is one of the most beautiful pieces of pop music I've ever heard.

Nightswimming by REM has got to be the most beautiful pop song ever written.  It's absolutely achingly beautiful.  Having just turned 30, listening to music has become sort of like chasing the rock and roll dragon, so when a song truly moves me it's that much more special.  This song never fails to strike a chord within me.  Beautiful music, beautiful words, beautiful melody.  What's strage is that I'm not even a big REM fan.  But they created something timeless here.
