Your question of the day?

Would you say that you are getting more rigid or more broad in your musical tastes as you age?I, paradoxically, feel as though it's both.Examples? Thoughts?

Busting tapes: Existential crisis of an 80s Tape Gal
almost 6 years ago

As evidenced by my many posts dedicated to my iPod, it's obvious that I have no problem with the MP3 age...I love having all that potential right there. However, with all that's available in terms of just...all that potential...I feel as if I often go into a fugue state of music binging (Nine new albums in one day? Sure! I know you know what I'm talking about), knowing quite well that I'm never go

A call to shortness

I read an editorial awhile back that discussed the relationship between the emergence of the CD as the popular music media format and lengthier albums, often times albums that are stuffed with "filler" to max out those 700MB. It then occured to me that (1) I didn't think I owned more than a handful of albums that I didn't want to skip at least one track on(of course acknowledging that my skipped t

Thom Yorke wants to tell you a bedtime story

Have you looked at these faux bedtime stories?(Why are all my posts about Thom Yorke? After all, I don't go around in my daily life thinking about him that often. I shall endeavor to post about a different musician.)

Not an across-the-board Bob Seger endorsement
over 5 years ago

After taking third place in my local poker game last night (the bar we play at has an inexplicable range of music downloaded to their system: Backstreet Boys followed by Stevie Wonder followed by U2 followed by Jack Johnson followed by Led Zeppelin...), I felt it was time to give a shout-out to the oft' overlooked and totally underrated gambling song, "Still the Same" by Bob Seger. Unlike Kenny Ro

I own this? Part 2

Moggers! In my previous post I didn't mean discovering music in your collections that you're embarrassed by, but rather something you're delightfully surprised by.What's the music you didn't even realize you owned until it came up on your shuffle? And you said to your self, Self, you have good taste even when you don't know it.My example was Yaz's "Only You."

I own this?

I'm a little embarrassed at the amount of music I have that I don't actually listen to. In an attempt to remedy this, I almost exclusively have my iPod on shuffle (*Note to the purists among us: I moved to Asia, I could not bring any hard copy music with me). Sometimes I'm horrified at what comes up (um, Quarterflash's "Harden My Heart"?), but sometimes I find something that (1) I didn't even rea

Let's Reverse That: Hated Song by an Artist You Love?

First of all, post an answer on the original post hereIt always makes me a little sad when I have to make the statement "[artist name here] is rad, except for that one song." (And yes, I used the word "rad." Get over it.)So Moggers: Song you hate from an artist you love? And let me be clear: I don't mean the song that you feel is weaker than the rest of their material, but rather a song you active
