MOG MOG

BECAUSE THE WEB MOSTLY SUCKS

I've been out of this Mog scene for awhile, so apologies if you've already oohed and aahed over this track (or hated on it), but something must be said about James Figurine's freakin' brilliant "55566688833." Forget, for a moment, that it sounds remarkably similar to Figurine's "New Mate," and listen up to the funny and pathetic lyrics about a relationship that's disintegrating via the couple's reading and misreading of each other's textmails (yes, this requires exclamation points, I'm so freakin' excited)! Now if this tune were by and about 16 year olds who grew up with text mail, it might be just another silly song about boyfriends and girlfriends, but Figurine's tune is most definitely for us kids who are still only a couple of years into this whole texting business ("I turned off my phone/you did the same/and we fought face-to-face like it was the 90s again")...it perfectly captures the passive-aggressive nature of the medium (the flat vocals, the impartial synths and sound machines). And if any of you out there have sent or received the ambiguous text, then this one's for you.
