ZOOKEEPER

"Zookeeper is the name Chris Simpson, the assured crooner of indie rock legends Mineral & The Gloria Record, has chosen for his most current musical endeavor." -bellecitypop.comZookeeper describes their genre as a three part circle of indie, western swing, and melodramatic popular song. The Zookeeper EP is out on bellecitypop records, complete with five lyrical and honest songs.review:This EP has strong vocals, meaningful lyrics, and eccentric instrumentation. I would suggest listening to this title with headphones, due to the flood of tracks; specifically on "Flood of Love." If you were a Mineral fan, sorry to dissappoint you, but there is no mineral-ness whatsoever to this ep. The ep slightly resembles The Gloria Record's "A Lull in Traffic," which may please many listeners. Each song, except "Two-Part Invention" is acoustic guitar driven, with various other instruments. The trombone makes for a great backing track, although it muddies up things alongside the roaming vocals on "Flood of Love." I would suggest not playing "Two-Part Invention" around pop-music lovers... it's an AM radio sounding track with a tremolo piano, roaming synth parts, and somewhat wailing vocals. Listen to this with headphones. Listen to the lyrics. They are fantastic. "I was a two-part invention, she was my melody."
One aspect of this little EP that I enjoy is the jumpy, happiness of it. Zookeeper is as indie as it gets, not as droning as Bright Eyes, and full of rich lyrical content.
