VAN OCCUPANTHER
-
Artist:
Hello Friends,In January '07 I was turned on to a band called Midlake, from Denton, TX. My life has not been the same since January '07. This is easily a Top 3 for the '06 - '07 school year.
If you've ever read Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein" and enjoyed it, then you will surely enjoy Midlake's latest release "The Trials of Van Occupanther." The album was produced beautifully, complete with warm acoustic guitars, organic drums, and wise violin instrumentation. I have not had a chance to ask Midlake, but I find a surreal correlation between the fictional novel "Frankenstein" and "Van Occupanther."
Midlake uses vivid imagery of nature throughout the entire album with haunting melodies on songs like "Branches" and "Head Home." The title track is equally impressive with its "science" groove and flute tracks. My favorite single by far is the track "Young Bride." The tremolo violin parts, bouncy drums, and steady vocals bring out the best in this band; organic honesty.
This mog post is only an attempt to turn fellow music friends onto a precious jewel known as Midlake.
Listen to this album with headphones. Then read "Frankenstein" by Mary Shelley. The combination is speechless.
