I can't force myself to accept the digital music purchasing idea. I've purchased music through iTunes before, but it really irks me. I need to have the physical copy in my hands. I like the album booklets and inserts (and lyrics, sometimes), the hidden artwork behind a black CD holder piece, the CD artwork, the fact that if my hard drive crashes, I have something to listen to and I haven't lost my entire library. No, I didn't buy the 13 versions of Smashing Pumpkins' Zeitgeist and I don't plan on buying them, but I do like rarities or accidental version releases, like 311's Grassroots, that become collectibles. Yes, I'm a slave to the music industry and their materialistic ways. I'm just glad I wasn't big into music when cassettes were huge. I'm sure in about 10 years (or even right now) someone will say the same thing about CDs.
The length of this title is fitting for an emo song. I suppose it could always use a few more words just to be safe...

plastic CD cases are horrible. the work of the devil in my opinion. the creak, the screech of the cheap plastic, the prying the CD loose from it's hold. i just find it a horrible experience that one must endure to get to the good bits, the music and the artwork.
cardboard CD cases are the future! those ones are the best. the flop of the cover as it closes, the easy removal of the CD, the absence of that god awful creak.
but nothing beats the artwork with a vinyl record. if you're into that sorta thing. like 6 times bigger and so much more intriguing. just wish they weren't so much more expensive.
i definitely agree with you that having something tactile to hold, look at, manually insert into a player, is far better than downloading a faceless mp3 with nothing but an ID3 tag. yes, even the plastic CD case is better than that lol.

I completely agree.
Digital music is only good for one thing in my opinion- convenience. But ahhhh... having a tangible representation of the sound makes the experience so much more personal. A little piece of the artist to get excited about and call your own, even if it does creak.

laura27, yes cardboard is the way to go - it's better for the environment too. That is one thing I 100% agree with. While I agree with the vinyl comment as far as artwork, I'd have to say that my lifestyle doesn't currently support vinyl. If you are a vinylphile, the creak must be like fingernails on a chalkboard. :shudders:
