MOG MOG

WHERE E=MC HAMMER

I went to a release show for local band Himalayan Bear on Friday, and I've been listening to the new album over and over since then. It's very summery and relaxing, like being in a hammock. Lazy percussion, quiet guitars, meandering vocal melodies, and usually some other flourish, all apparently inspired by old Hawaii.

Try "I'm on Sorrow" or "I Swam With Turtles" over on myspace.

Himalayan Bear is Ryan Beattie from Chet, with rotating guests. Ryan has a heart-throb crooning voice, and a great falsetto when he gets warmed up. On a lot of these songs, you get multitracked Ryan. It's a treat.

The new album is called Lo Lonesome Island and I think you can get it from Aaargh! Records for cheap.

You're right, that's perfect lazy summer music. "I Swam With Turtles" is so pretty.
