bq. "Always remember":http://www.warrenellis.com/?p=3748 : Valentine’s Day is a Christian corruption of a "pagan festival":http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lupercalia involving werewolves, blood and fucking. So wish people a happy Horny Werewolf Day and see what happens. No one feels as unrequited as a horny werewolf, so count your blessings, Valentines.bq. Once I saw him in the moonlight when the bats were a flyingAll alone I saw the werewolf and the werewolf was cryingbq. Crying nobody, nobody, nobody knowsHow much I love the maid as I tear off her clothesCrying nobody, nobody, knows my painWhen I see that it's risen that full moon again

  1. Kate says Alright!!! You rock, Ookpik. When Xmas comes around I like to remind people that the seasonal red and white obsession originally comes from the fact that reindeer loooove to eat the psychedelic red and white amanita muscarita mushrooms. By the way, I couldn't find the post you linked to with the words "pagan festival."

  2. Origami says Nice touch, a unique perspective today. I never really even connect Valentine's Day with Christianity anymore, ever since the greeting card and candy companies dropped the "Saint" part as unprofitable.

  6. ookpik says Oops, Kate, the link is to "Lupercalia":http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lupercalia. Fixed now, so we can all get up to date on our ritual fertility sacrifices, goat skin outfits, and marathons of public whipping (aka The Romans). The howls at the end of that song make my heart explode. There there, werewolf.

  10. Wozniak says I don't think it matters anymore. And I don't think Christianity is inherently bad - we've just had more fucktards than any other group that I can think of in history. What VD is today sucks. It's just an excuse to keep the capitalist economy going once more by buying blood diamonds, gold that's the harvest of an earth being strip-mined and whose pursuit of has led to genocide and environmental degradation throughout history, flowers that are cut by people working for slave wages, and gov't subsidized (subsidies to corporate agrifirms are insane in the US) sugary sweets which will lead to obesity and diabetes. How's that for gravitas? ;)

  11. Anonymous says . Have you seen "Michael Hurley":http://www.chicagoreader.com/TheMeter/960621.html live? If not, don't pass up your next opportunity. And hopefully your next opportunity is not a bar booking. I once saw him in a crowded, noisy bar. The man barely rises above a murmur, and is far too resigned to request quiet. He'll just continue to whittle, sub-audibly. I tried talking to him one time, and it's the closest I've come to seeing someone evaporate before my eyes. Or maybe I was the one made to evaporate. At any rate, fan chitchat may result in the man withdrawing completely within himself, without so much as a goodbye. Now you see him, now you don't.
