WHERE THE HOKEY POKEY "IS" WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT

Caribou: face melting.

Posted over 2 years ago
I decided to spend Halloween with Caribou because they seem to like costumes and the two times I've seen them before (once as Manitoba) are still holding strong in my personal list of top live music experiences. I think its the combination of the double drummers, the projected animations, and the bizarre pre-recorded components. (Sometimes, despite all the excess on stage, the vocals are pre-recorded. You really couldn't spare a singer? Dan Snaith seems to be only playing recorder...)Last night's show was at a bigger venue, so the effect was a little less concentrated, but the festive audience mood made up the difference. The relevance of YouTube bootlegs is somewhat compromised by the Halloween factor, but just imagine the band dressed as ghosts and the audience all decked out, and drop right into the psychedelic onslaught:Caribou needs to team up with "Dungen":http://youtube.com/watch?v=sgkwOVw1dBU.

  1. ookpik says One more video. Whoever recorded the band in this pink room has an excellent sense of style.

  3. Marigold says Totally loving that vid you posted. Did you take it? If so very nice. I have downloaded their cds a while back but have not given them proper spinning. The video footage may prompt even further exploration. Thanks.

  5. ookpik says marigold, they aren't my videos. just the power of youtube in full effect! i hope you two like the albums. i really enjoy them, but i find they are much different from the live experience. the records sound so airy that i put them on to relax. just a nice, solid groove in the background. much less thunderous than they are in person! both those videos include songs from Up In Flames, under the former band name, Manitoba. also worth checking out if you haven't already. it might even be my favourite.

  6. Marigold says I am in the process of re-listening to Andorra and now I am half through Milk of Human Kindness. This is some great headphones music. I never heard the half of what was going on in this music without the headphones. The song Bees is blowing my mind right now. I could totally see making a point to try and catch them the next time they are in town. I have heard the Manitoba release once. I plan to listen to that next....will report on findings. :) Thanks for jogging my brain on this one.
