Back to Belly

Posted over 2 years ago
I have revisited my adoration for Belly this month what with all the nostalgic sounding new bands out presenting early 1990's "alternative college radio" sounds. Anyway, Tanya Donelly is literally flawless on this album (oops, I called it an album...can I still do that?). I found out that she harmonized with herself on all the tracks, which I love. I also noticed how downright twisted and haunted the lyrics for Dusted were. Yikes. Good old Internets lets me look up like every single song lyric I've ever wanted to know. Feed the Tree, another hit song on Star is considered by some to be the seminal college rock radio anthem. I don't know about that, but I love that song.

  2. ongoingly says LOL! I don't think I am aquainted with that gentleman! For some reason, I think his Belly is in pretty good shape! I will check out his music...I am lacking in hip hop chops. I am more old skool. :-)

  3. snakama says I still listen to Tanya/ Belly often.. I was fortunate to catch them way back in the 90's.. My favorite track on Star, is the title track, beautiful. What do you think of the her solo work? I saw Tanya a few years back, she performed a few belly tracks, that were definitely the highlight of the night..

  4. Girlcrawl says Such a kickin' song, and I concur with your statement "Donelly is literally flawless on this album"...btw, album is still quite acceptable :-). Was an avid Throwing Muses fan, and saw them perform many times - Donelly contributed some great tunes to the early Muses oeuvre though she was often overshadowed by Hersh's brilliance. Fabulous post!

  5. Marigold says I always shake my head when I am at the cd store. I see so many Belly cds in the close out bins. It is pretty sad for she is a great talant for sure. I still enjoy her cds...I suppose I could blow the dust off them it has been a while. Thanks for the reminder. I have seen her a few times in concert as well. I should check out some of her solo work and see what she is up to nowadays. It has been a while since I have checked in with her.
